Only God’s Plans Prevail – Beloved Women – June 11, 2024
READ: “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” (Proverbs 19:21 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Our society is obsessed with planning. We have digital and paper tools to help us with our meals, projects, and lives. At the beginning of the year, we create vision boards, short and long term goals and make resolutions. We are a people that make plans.
Here in the scripture Solomon tells us that the plans of man are many. In the Hebrew, this word for plan translates to mean intentions or thoughts. He is pointing out what we already know. Human beings constantly have thoughts about the way our lives should go. We fantasize about how, when, and where expected outcomes should occur.
Solomon is not saying we should give up our desired outcomes and wait on God’s plans to manifest in our lives. He is saying in your planning, recognize that it is God who has the final say. God’s desired outcome takes precedence over our own. Solomon reminds us of God’s sovereignty and the fact that He controls all things including our lives.
PRAY: Dear God, Help me to submit my plans to You recognizing that You control all things. May I trust that Your plan for my life is far better than any plan I develop on my own. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: When have you experienced a time in your life when God’s plans prevailed over your own? How does this bring you comfort?
