Do I Really Need to Pray? - Love Worth Finding - June 24

Do I really need to pray?

June 24

But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him. Psalm 4:3

If ever there was a reason to pray, it would be that Jesus has told us to (see Luke 18:1b). Yet since Matthew 6:8 says, “Your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him,” you may wonder, “Why do I need to talk to God about my needs?”

Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance; it’s laying hold of His willingness. It’s part of God’s grand scheme that He has given us the privilege to cooperate with Him in prayer.

Does prayer change God’s mind? Prayer doesn’t change God or His character. He is a changeless God. You can’t change Him with your prayers and I can’t change Him with mine. But prayer does affect what God does!

This is so important for you to grasp! God will do things when we pray that He will not do if we don’t prayThe Bible says clearly and plainly, “we have not because we ask not.” Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance. Prayer is laying hold of God’s will.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (1 John 5:14).

The only thing that lies outside the reach of prayer is that which lies outside the will of God. There are things God has for you that will only come about if you pray. You cannot change His mind, but you can change what He does.

Ephesians 6:18 tells us to pray “in the Spirit.” Any prayer that the Holy Spirit lays upon your heart will be answered, because the prayer that gets to heaven is the prayer that starts in heaven. We just close the circuit.
