Strength to Drink From the Cup – Beloved Women – September 11, 2020
READ: “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
I barely recognized him as he walked slowly into the room. During our conversation, my friend shared about his diagnosis. I promised to keep him in my prayers.
The next day while praying for my friend, the picture of a cup and Luke 22:42 came to mind. Near the end of his ministry, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives to pray in anticipation of His suffering and death. He lifted his cup of suffering and asked God to take it away. Instead, God gave Jesus peace and strength to endure the suffering that was to come.
I lifted my friend’s cup of cancer to the Lord in prayer and asked for healing, comfort, strength, and courage. I prayed for God to reveal His purpose to him.
Whatever your cup is, whether it is the current pandemic, illness, stress, job loss, or financial issues, you can trust Jesus with it. No doubt, it is hard to drink from the cup of trials. But Jesus shows us how to drink with courage.
Jesus’ suffering allows Him to identify with our pain and suffering. He drank willingly from the cup of humiliation, anguish, and death to redeem us. We can have peace as we trust Him for comfort and strength to go through our trials.
PRAY: Father, I bring my cup of suffering to You. Give me strength, and comfort as I seek Your purpose. Let your will be done in my life. Thank you for loving me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
REFLECT: What cup of suffering is threatening your peace today? Pray for the courage to patiently endure as you trust God to bring you through.
SHARE: Whatever is in our cup, we can have peace and trust Jesus to bring us through our trials.
