Speech
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Right now, as we exist, in this very moment, the heavens are declaring God’s glory. I wonder if we sit here quietly for long enough – if we will hear it. We can at least imagine and remember church choirs we have heard, wonderful symphonies that have reverberated within us, concert halls and/or turning up an amazing song on the radio real loud in our cars. We can be creative enough to imagine the havens proclaiming His glory. And after we imagine it, may we excitingly join in it. May the words that come from our mouths represent the love for Christ that we have within our hearts. And may our actions reflect His love for service to others.
He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious
Will have the king for his friend.
And when we do, God will give us favor with Kings just as he did for Joseph and for Daniele and Esther.
But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in the grace of giving.
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of the elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Warriors, God has wonderful plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). May your speech proclaim His glory as you walk into all He has prepared in advance for you to do. And as you walk forward, in faith, remember it is by grace, not by self, that you do so. A Warrior knows to “Just show up” and let God do the rest.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
