Guarding Our Mouths for the Glory of God - Beloved Women - January 2, 2024
READ: “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips!” (Psalm 141:3 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: We live in times where everyone feels that their voice must be heard. We want to be understood and we want to make sure that our points and opinions are heard. It's easy to get caught up in the moment and yell at a loved one, offend a co-worker, make a smart comment when waiting in line at the grocery store, or cut someone else off as they are talking. It's moments like this that our comments cannot be taken back, no matter the hurt, pain, or offense.
In our day to day life, we need to pray and seek God’s wisdom throughout our day and be mindful of the words that we speak out of our mouths. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit in us, that can help us. As Psalm 141 says, O Lord, set a guard over my mouth and keep watch over the door to my lips. We must pause and listen to the prompting of the Spirit to stop, be still, be quiet or to speak different words. Words have power and may we use our words for His Glory. When seeking God throughout our day, we can speak life, blessings, encouragement and sometimes a listening ear. It gives us open doors to share the Truth of a loving Savior. May we guard our mouths for His glory.
PRAY: Lord Jesus, please help me to guard my words and honor You in all that I say and do. May I pause and think about my words before they come out of my mouth. Help me to speak in a way that builds others up. Help me to be quiet when I need to be. In Jesus’ Christ name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: How can I honor God with the words that come from mouth?
