20 Bible Verses about Peace during the Storms of Uncertainty

Josie Siler

Need some Bible verses about peace today? I don’t think anyone would argue with the observation that we’re living in uncertain times. Storms of uncertainty rage all around us. Political storms, pandemic storms, and our own personal storms of life swirl around in our minds and try to disrupt our lives. How do we find peace in a world that feels so stormy? Bible verses for peace are plentiful. Let’s look at some of them and allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts.

What Is Godly Peace?

The first thing I think we need to know about Godly peace is that it’s available to us. It’s not something God keeps hidden and makes us work for. We don’t have to play games to try to earn it, we simply have to ask for it.

The second thing we need to know about Godly peace is that it’s found in the midst of the storms of life. Sometimes God will calm our storm and remove it from us. He’ll fix everything and we’ll praise Him for the miracle He worked. But God doesn’t always calm the storm. Sometimes He allows us to go through something difficult, but He never makes us go through it alone. He will be with us in the storm and He will give us peace in spite of the storm. This too is a miracle.

What Are Some Ways God Grants Us Peace in the Midst of Storms?

God grants us peace in the midst of storms by being present with us in the storm. One of the best examples I can think of is the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. We read about them in Daniel 3. King Nebuchadnezzar made a huge golden image. He set it up in the province of Babylon and invited the leaders and officials of the kingdom to come to a dedication of the golden image. Everyone gathered in a large open plain before the image of gold. A herald proclaimed in a loud voice that when the music played they were commanded to fall down and worship the image of gold. Anyone who did not do this would immediately be cast into a fiery furnace to be burned alive.

The music played and the people fell to their faces. Most of the people, anyway. Three men were left standing. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were Jews who had made a name for themselves while in exile in Babylon. They were there that day, but they refused to worship anyone or anything besides the Lord their God. People noticed and told King Nebuchadnezzar. Yes, they tattled to the king who was furious and commanded Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. He asked if this was true and gave them a second chance to bow before his golden image.

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up’” (Daniel 3:16-18, ESV).

The only way Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego could have given such an answer is if the peace of God was filling their hearts. They knew God could save them but were willing to face a horrible death if He didn’t. They knew that either way, God would be with them and this knowledge filled them with the peace that made no sense given their current situation.

You know what happens next. King Nebuchadnezzar was furious. He was so mad he instructed the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual, then had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego thrown into the flames. The fire was so hot it killed the men who threw them in, yet a miracle was in the works. When the king looked in, he saw not three men bound and burning, but four men, unbound and walking in the midst of the fire. One of the men looked like “a son of the gods.”

Nebuchadnezzar commanded Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to come out of the flames. They “saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them” (Daniel 3:27).

The Lord didn’t take away the fiery storm that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced. Instead, He entered the storm and walked alongside them in the midst of it, literally. Because of the faithfulness of these men, a nation saw the power of God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were promoted and I can only imagine the people who came to know God because of them.

God also grants us peace in the midst of storms by calming the storm. We see an example of this in Mark 4:35-41 where Jesus literally calms a storm. After a long day of ministering to the people, Jesus gets in a boat with His disciples and immediately falls fast asleep. A powerful storm comes upon them and they wake Jesus up. "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" Jesus woke up, rebuked the wind, and spoke to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" Immediately the wind stopped blowing and a great calm came upon the sea. The disciples marveled at the power Jesus had that even the wind and waves obeyed Him.

God will either calm the storm or fill us with His peace and presence in the midst of the storm. Let’s look at some verses that we can hold on to when the storms of life try to overtake us.

Bible Verses about Peace and Strength

Then the one who looked like a man touched me again, and I felt my strength returning. ‘Dont be afraid,’ he said, ‘for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!’ As he spoke these words to me, I suddenly felt stronger and said to him, ‘Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me’” Daniel 10:18-19, NLT.

“May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!” Psalm 29:11, ESV.

“So the church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers” Acts 9:31, CSB.

Bible Verses about Peace in Hard Times

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” Romans 15:13, ESV.

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you” Romans 16:20, ESV.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” John 16:33, ESV.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication” Ephesians 6:13-18, ESV.

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all” 2 Thessalonians 3:16, NLT.

Bible Verses about Peace of Mind

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So dont be troubled or afraid” John 14:27, NLT.

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace” Romans 8:5-6.

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace” 1 Corinthians 14:33, ESV.

“Dont worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”Philippians 4:6-7, CSB.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you”Philippians 4:8-9, ESV.

“May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord” 2 Peter 1:2, ESV.

Bible Verses about Comfort

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” Psalm 4:8, ESV.

“Therefore, since we have been made right in Gods sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing Gods glory” Romans 5:1-2, NLT.

“Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11, ESV

“Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]” Colossians 3:15, AMP.

“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity” 1 Timothy 2:1-2, NLT.

“Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love”2 John 1:3, ESV.

There is an abundance of Bible verses for peace to comfort our troubled hearts. God knew we would face many storms in life, so He gave us His Word, the Bible. In it we find verses to strengthen us and comfort us when we go through stormy seasons. If you’re experiencing a storm of uncertainty right now, know that God is with you in the midst of it. He will never leave you or forsake you.
