Growing Stronger through Discomfort - Beloved Women - April 5, 2024
READ: “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.” (John 14:16 KJV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Does it seem that sometimes the Holy Spirit makes you more uncomfortable than comforted?
As Jesus prepared to return to heaven, He promised that the Holy Spirit would come to be our Comforter. Someone who comforts is also a helper, counselor, and teacher. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth (John 16:13).
Sometimes His leading is into places and in ways that we wouldn’t choose on our own. When we are moving in the wrong direction, or when we need to grow, the Holy Spirit can let us know by causing a certain discomfort or restlessness inside. Have you ever been presented with an opportunity that seemed perfect, only to sense a quiet disturbance in your heart warning you not to proceed? The Holy Spirit is aware of every detail and consequence that we cannot see. When He says “no” it is always for a good reason.
When we trust and obey the Lord, we become better in ways that we couldn’t even imagine. Following the Lord feels uncomfortable sometimes, but be assured that the Holy Spirit is always leading you into the greatest comfort of all--exactly where the Lord wants you to be.
PRAY: Thank You, Holy Spirit, for the comfort and the discomfort You bring. Help me to respond to You today with a trusting and obedient attitude. I know that You are leading me to live out the Father’s perfect will for my life. Even when I am uncomfortable, I know that Your love and wisdom will never harm me or disappoint me. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
REFLECT: Is there an area of your life that the Holy Spirit is pointing out to you for change?
