Does God Really Love Me? - Beloved Women - April 14, 2023
READ: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: “You need to remember that God still loves you.” That was the first thing my friend said after hearing about the child we’d just miscarried. How did she know? I hadn’t yet realized that was the question hovering beneath the surface of my tears.
“Does God really love me?” often hitches a ride with trials. Yet, this well-worn verse rarely comes to mind in response. Yes, it is accurately most frequently quoted to those who have yet to encounter and believe in Christ. But what about those of us who already believe?
John 3:16 - this good news - reminds us of God’s unconditional love. This love already guaranteed us an eternity with God. This love led God to sacrifice his most precious relationship - His only Son. This love compelled Christ to empty Himself, humbly and obediently sacrificing His life (Philippians 2:7,8). This love knew all that we would do, say or think that would break God’s heart - and He did it all anyway (Romans 5:8).
So, dear Sis, during times of trial, when it is tempting to question God’s love, be reminded that God has already demonstrated His eternal love to you. And absolutely nothing in creation can separate you from it (Romans 8:38-39).
PRAY: Father God, help me remember that no matter what goes on around me, no matter what I am facing or how I feel, Your love is real, true, and forever. Help me to rest in it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECT: Do you remember a time when you thought, “Does God loves me?” How have you experienced God’s love even in a season of doubt?
