Hands-on Faith for Families – week of May 3, 2021
Theme: Look for Ways to Serve Others
A Servant’s Heart Is Compassionate
Scripture: For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me. (Matthew 25:35-36 ESV)
Play: Take turns showing an emotion on your face. Let other family members mimic the facial expression and guess the emotion.
Talk: Understanding how people feel helps us recognize what they need and helps us respond to their needs with compassion. That’s what Jesus did. He responded to the needs of those around Him by showing compassion. He healed the sick and fed the hungry. God wants us to do the same — to look at the people around us, see what they need and then serve them. When we see the needs of others (empathy) and then help them (compassion), we are serving God (Matthew 25:35-36). What is a need that one of our friends or relatives has, and what can we do to show him or her compassion?
Pray: Ask God for His love for others so you are able to show them His compassion.
