Today's Scripture
"You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for by Christ]; then do not yield yourselves up to become [in your own estimation] slaves to men [but consider yourselves slaves to Christ]." 1 Corinthians 7:23 AMP
Thoughts for Today
We were bought with a dear price. Jesus Christ shed his blood and died on the cross to pay the price for our sin, to set us free from sin's hold. And the Bible tells us that whoever the Son sets free is free indeed.
Free to serve Jesus. Free to experience the joy and peace that come only through him. Free to become the person he has designed us to be. Free to use our God-given gifts to make a difference in this world.
And yet . . . how often do we choose to serve something other than Jesus. We choose to become slaves to people's opinions. Slaves to popularity, success, being accepted. When we become slaves to people and their opinions, we are no longer free. Only Jesus gives us freedom to accomplish the purpose of our journey.
Consider this . . .
If you have accepted Christ as your personal Savior, you have been set free. Are you living free . . . or are you submitting to the bondage of wrong choices made for the wrong reasons. Wrong relationships. Wrong desires. Wrong habits.
Is there something in your life that is robbing you of the freedom and joy Jesus died to give you? Are you ready to invite Jesus to help you stop being a slave of men and becoming his servant in every area of your life?
He's waiting. Talk to him now.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for being so controlled by these other things. Help me get back on the path to real freedom. Thank you for dying to set me free. Help me put you first in my life. Help me to stop letting other people's opinions and ways control my thinking and my living.
In Jesus' name . . .
These thoughts were drawn from . . . Godly Heroes: A Small Group Study of Hebrews 11 by Jimmy Ray Lee, D.Min. This guide presents a step-by-step study of Hebrews 11. It also features the profile of the characteristics of Godly heroes, written in language that relates to today's living. In this guide you will find definitions, characteristics and examples of the heroes' faith life. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
