An Encouraging Son - Warrior Mom Wisdom - February 4

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

An Encouraging Son

Last night, after I spent the entire day in the office working on a research paper; I came into the living room as my family was getting ready to eat dinner. My son said, “Mom, I don’t know if this is the right situation to say this, or if I should say something else, but ‘good job.’”

For what? I asked him.

“For working so hard all day on your report, Mom.”

My heart melted. “Jacob, you are such an encourager!” I told him. “Thank you for your thoughtfulness, and anytime you want to encourage someone, it’s the right time and the perfect situation.” I added.

“Thanks, Mom.” My heart melted. I should be the one thanking him. He is so thoughtful. Only God can put such thoughtfulness in someone. Jacob is so sweet that it humbles me, continually and catches my breath, simultaneously bringing tears to my eyes, rendering me vulnerable to a profound love.

I am continually reminded of the gift God gives us through children. God named my son, Jacob, and Jacob was born profoundly deaf. My heart has since then been desperately attentive to what God says and how He often sends people to deliver His profound message of encouragement.

Since God’s Son is the ultimate encourager, I pray that my son and your son, and your daughter, and your mother, and your sister, and neighbor, and you realize that Jesus is such an encouraging Son, and He believes in you so very much, that He died for you, and He intimately desires to encourage you today. May you set aside a moment to sit in the living room of your heart and listen to what an Encouraging Son has to say.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the King of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of the flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.”
