Hands-on Faith for Families – Week of May 2, 2022
Theme: Know Your Faith Story
Don’t Be Deceived
Scripture: No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. (1 John 2:23 ESV)
Play: Think of a family memory. As the family retells the story together, add a few things that aren’t true. See if anyone stops and corrects you.
Talk: People usually retell stories in a way that makes them sound even better than what really happened. Sometimes they include things that aren’t true, either because of faulty memory or a desire to make a story sound better. When it comes to telling people about God, some may try to deceive us on purpose, and others who are confused about the truth may try to get us to believe as they do. They might want to convince us that Jesus was only a man and not God. When this happens, we need to reject what they say and believe what God’s Word says. The Bible says that whoever denies Jesus as the Son of God doesn’t have the Father, but whoever believes in Jesus has the Father also (1 John 2:23). This means that Jesus and the Father are one (John 10:30). Without Jesus, we can’t know God. What are some ways that we can keep from being deceived about who Jesus is?
Pray: Pray that the Lord will reveal His truth to you and help you stay firm in your belief in Jesus.
