5 Unique Ways to Encourage Women This Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a unique time for us to acknowledge biological and spiritual moms in our lives. Although we should be thanking them year-round, we have the blessing of celebrating women everywhere on this special day. Sometimes having the same holiday every year can create frustration or difficulties in trying to find fresh ways to acknowledge and love on the mothers in our lives. 

Here are 5 unique ways to encourage women this Mother’s Day.

1. Think Outside of the Box

What does your mom or mother figure really want that they do not normally ask for? Maybe you are walking around a store and see something that pops out at you? Or you are browsing online and trying to find the perfect gift. Try to think through something useful, something that speaks to her particular style, or book an experience for her. 

Ideas:

  • Spa treatment gift card
  • Is there a hobby or an author that she always talks about, try to find something connected to make it personal?
  • Book an amazing experience like a high tea, a soaking tub cabana, or a fun event
  • Get her tickets to a women’s retreat or conference
  • Buy her tickets to her favorite concert or theater show

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

2. Do Something Sentimental

Sometimes the best gifts are those that make us pull out the tissues. Consider the special ways that you can acknowledge your mom. You can make something homemade, compile encouragement from all who love her, or do something connected with your ancestry. Whatever you feel led to do bless her, if it is from the heart, she will love it.

Ideas:

  • Homemade art (Especially something cute if you have kids involved)
  • Compilation Video (Put together a video of clips from everyone who loves your mom)
  • Get thank you notes from everyone who loves your mom and bundle them together 
  • Make a scrapbook or order a photo book of your favorite memories with your mom
  • Write about how God has intentionally put together your family line

Proverbs 30:25-29 says, “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

3. Acknowledge Women Who Have Experienced Loss:

I have some dear friends who have miscarried children. Where Mother’s Day is a day of celebration for many, it is a reminder of their pain and loss. Take some time to find a way to love on these women in a special way. It will not erase the pain, but it can help them to feel seen and loved by God.

Ideas:

  • Spa treatment gift card
  • Send a tree for them to plant in honor of their baby
  • Write a thoughtful card about how amazing they are
  • Send them a cute devotional and journal
  • Give a meaningful piece of jewelry in honor of their child or children

Psalm 113:9 says, He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.”

4. Help Her Dreams Come True

Moms have dreams too and it is easy for them to let go of their dreams because of their responsibilities. Their ideas of potential hobbies and interests often go on the back burner because they are working so hard. One of the sweetest ways that we can encourage the mother figures in our lives is to motivate them to dream again. Dreams need to be cultivated, so we can help kickstart the process for them.

Ideas:

  • Sign her up for a hobby she has always wanted to try (Cooking class, pottery class, dance class, etc.)
  • Get her the supplies to begin her craft (scrapbooking, writing, cooking, art, music, etc.)
  • Sign her up for a workshop that specializes in her hobby.
  • Collect money towards her dream. Gather from all the people who love her and give the lump sum to begin her journey

Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

5. Write Out Your History with Mom

This will take time, but it could be very meaningful to her. Spend some time to write out over the years some specific ways and memories of how your mother has sacrificed or helped you grow. Write down specific moments and include her impact. 

Ideas:

  • Write out memories of how your mom served you selflessly
  • Include times of trials that she walked with you through
  • Write out ways that she encouraged you in your dreams and goals
  • Share about how she influenced your life for Christ (If applicable) 
  • Tell her how much you are grateful for the ways that she taught you and built you up in faith (If applicable)
  • Include Bible verses that to encourage your mom
  • Tell about humorous ways that she loved you when you were difficult to love

Proverbs 1:8-9 says, “Listen, my son, to your fathers instruction and do not forsake your mothers teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”

However you decide to celebrate mothers this Mother’s Day, remember that God has gifted us with women that we are able to honor and bless. Ultimately, they are a precious gift from Him and He has shown us His love through them. We can honor Him and worship Him for the good gifts that He has given to us in the mothers in our lives.
