What Does the Bible Say about Crystals?

When most of us think of crystals, we think of a fancy jewel or the mineral we learned about in science class. Crystals are quite beautiful, and they are part of God’s beautiful creation. While the Bible speaks of crystals, some people in the modern-day believe crystals have healing or special powers to them.

In this article, we are going to be discussing what the Bible says about crystals and what it doesn’t.

1. Beautiful Crystals

The Old Testament mentions crystals many times. Job 28:19 talks about a topaz, which is a crystal, “The topaz of Cush cannot compare with it; it cannot be bought with pure gold.”

Lamentations 4:7 speaks of rubies in analogy, “Their princes were brighter than snow and whiter than milk, their bodies more ruddy than rubies, their appearance like lapis lazuli.”

Proverbs 8:11 also speaks about rubies — “for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” In these senses, the Bible uses crystals to refer to a variety of different things.

In addition to the Old Testament, the New Testament talks about crystals in the New Heaven and New Earth. The river described in the New Heaven and New Earth is described to be as clear as crystal (Revelation 22:1).

The area before the throne of God is also described as being as clear as crystal (Revelation 4:6). While the Bible uses the beautiful imagery of crystal in its writings, it never tells us that crystals have healing or magical power properties as is popularly believed in mainstream society.

2. Healing Crystals

Healing crystals and crystals with other magical properties is a popular topic in the world today. Those who believe in the power of crystals believe different crystals have different properties or different powers to help whoever uses them or wears them.

The belief in the healing powers of crystals is nothing new. In ancient times, such as in the cultures of Egypt, Greece, and China, individuals believed that crystals had magical powers.

Despite many people having used crystals and believing they can heal ailments, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support these claims. It is best to see crystals as what they are — just minerals.

Crystals do not have any powers to heal anyone, nor do they have magical properties. Rather than containing magical properties, crystals are just beautiful minerals created by God.

3. Special Properties

As already addressed, crystals do not contain any special properties that give them special powers.

Many individuals believe crystals can not only bring healing and cures to ailments, but they also believe crystals can bring good fortune, help one in their romantic relationships, and help prevent a person from evil forces.

As Christians, we know the Bible never tells us crystals can do any of these things. Those who place such a high emphasis on crystals are in a way being involved with the occult. The Bible warns us against participating in the occult.

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

While many individuals would argue that crystals are not a part of the occult, they truly are since they are used with the purpose of trying to manipulate situations.

Can Christians Use Crystals?

Christians should not use crystals because they are a part of the occult. Anytime we are trying to manipulate situations through objects, such as crystals, we are participating in the occult.

It is best for Christians to abstain from crystals in the sense of using them for “healing” properties or other magical properties.

If a Christian wants to wear a crystal just for jewelry and the Christian isn’t wearing it for “special purposes,” then it is perfectly okay. It is just advisable for Christians to not seek out crystals or their “healing” properties.

The Bible never tells us crystals have special abilities and science has also confirmed that crystals cannot truly heal any condition or affect the outcome of an event.

Crystals have been used for a myriad of things across the world, but we should never use them in the sense of the occult or occult practices.

Is Having Crystals Considered Idolatry?

Whenever we place anything above God, it becomes an idol in our life, and we become guilty of idolatry. If we are actively seeking healing or help from crystals, then we are placing crystals as the idol in our lives.

We should never worship anyone or anything except for God (Deuteronomy 4:15-20; 2 Corinthians 6:16-17). If you have had a past in crystals, it is okay. The Lord will forgive you if you ask.

Make sure you turn away from the crystals and get rid of anything you have associated with the crystals, including the crystals themselves. If you are currently participating in the practice of crystals, you need to stop, seek out God, and turn to Him.

The Lord does not want you involved with the occult. He wants you to turn to Him and seek out His help, love, and guidance. The crystals offer empty promises. Only God can provide us with true healing, love, and guidance.

Crystals are but minerals created by the Lord God Almighty. I have never personally had experience with crystals, but I have known many Christians who used crystals and they could feel how much the practice of crystals pulled them away from God and His grace.

As believers, we need to strive to grow closer to God and grow more into His Image. We should not participate in anything that will draw us away from Him.

James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

We would be wise to follow James' advice and choose to draw near to God by giving up any occult practices, including using crystals. In the same way, we need to wash our hands and purify our hearts by actively turning away from the sin in our life.

Giving up the use of crystals may be difficult if you have been using them a long time or if you have a strong belief in crystals, but it is vital that you give up this practice. Crystals do not bring you closer to God.

In fact, they draw you away from Him and cause the crystals themselves to become the idol or “god” in your life. I promise your life will be much better if you place God first and foremost in your life instead of crystals.

With God, there is love, peace, and freedom, but with crystals, there are only empty promises, pain, and false hope. Turn to the Lord today and He can help you.

The Lord never promised us that He would heal us of our ailments, nor did He promise us that our lives would be perfect, but He did promise that He would walk with us through it all — through the bright times and the dark times (Psalm 23; Hebrews 13:5).
