9 Prayers of Thankfulness to Shape Your Day

Emma Danzey

Gratitude is proven to unlock joy in the life of any believer. When we thank our Lord and Savior, we remind ourselves of the gifts that He has provided. No matter what kind of day we are having, what struggles we are facing, or what celebrations we have, taking the intentional time to pray and thank God opens our eyes to His glory. Here are nine prayers of thankfulness to shape your day.

1 Chronicles 16:34 - “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!”

1. Thankful for Life

Jesus,

I praise you today because I have life. I am here on this earth for a purpose greater than myself. Thank You for being the Creator of all, including me. You knit me in my mother’s womb, called me by Your name, I am Yours. Father, I am so blessed to be alive. I am so grateful for breath and meaning. Thank You for calling me and including me in a greater kingdom plan. You are so good and I glorify You as my Maker. There is none like You.

Amen

2. Thankful for Salvation

Dear Savior,

I praise You today for the joy of salvation found only in You, Jesus. Thank You for being all-sufficient, eternal, and perfect. Thank You for choosing to pursue a broken sinner like me to bring me back to Yourself. Thank You for dying a horrible death and raising Yourself back to life, defeating eternal death. I am so grateful to be forgiven, to be healed, to be part of Your family. Thank You for living the life I could not live and dying in my place. Thank You that I do not have to live in fear today, but in victory through You Jesus.

Amen.

3. Thankful for A New Day

Lord,

Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. Thank You for the physical reminder of new mercies by the rising of the sun each day. You are so good and You are sovereign over everything. I am grateful for the opportunities that You already have planned for me to share and experience Your love today. I surrender this day and its detours to You and ask that You would use each moment possible for Your purposes and Your name’s sake.

Amen.

4. Thankful for Family

Father,

Today, I acknowledge that You have given me the people in my family (biologically or spiritually) for a reason. Thank You for the gift of being known and loved. Even when we show our worst selves, there is a sense of loyalty and commitment. I praise You for those whom You have intentionally placed around me to teach me more of You. For those who do not have You as Savior and Lord, I ask that their hearts would be softened and turned to You today. Thank You that I can help model Your love to them. I pray that they would be in our eternal family.

Amen.

5. Thankful for Friends

God,

Thank You for the friends You have placed in my life. I praise You for those who live close by and do life with me. I thank You for believing friends who pray for me and point me to You. I praise You for friends who do not know you. Thank You for the gift of sharing Your love with them. Help them to have opened eyes to Your gospel. Thank You for friends who live further away. I praise You for technology to help us to stay in touch. Bless them today wherever they are and however You are uniquely calling them to serve You.

Amen.

6. Thankful for Home

Lord,

Thank You for providing a roof over my head. I praise You for a place to call home and to rest. Thank You for the opportunity to have a place to live. Thank You for the gift of renewal and sleep. I praise You for a place to welcome others in and show the gift of hospitality. Thank You for those who come into my home. I pray each visit would help them to see Your love.

Amen.

7. Thankful for a Job

God,

Even though work is hard, You created us to work. Thank You for a job that provides for my household. Thank You for special giftings and talents that can be used in the workplace. Thank You for atmospheres that are platforms to Your gospel. Thank You for bosses, co-workers, and employees. Thank You for the creativity and the diligence that You give to me within my career. Help me to remember this is a blessing and provision from You, even on the hardest of days. I pray that today I would remember that You walk with me each step of the day and that You are moving in my field of work.

Amen.

8. Thankful for Food

God,

You are the Creator of food and water. You have given us the joy of eating wonderful meals. I praise You for the food that nourishes my body today. I praise You for the special foods that are just a treat to partake in. I praise You that You give the joy and creativity of cooking and trying new foods. Thank You for filling my body so that I can have energy today and be more effective. I am grateful for the gift and am so thankful for Your provisions.

Amen.

9. Thankful for Trials

Lord,

Thank You for the trials that I face today. I would not choose them, I would not wish them on anyone, but You use them for my good and Your glory. Please reveal more of who You are in the pain and hardship. Refine me like silver and help me to look more like You through this challenge. Thank You that nothing is wasted in a life that walks with You. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient in my weaknesses. Thank You for being with me always.

Amen.
