Newborn babies are reasons to celebrate God’s love. Each soul who comes into our world is loved completely by his or her Creator. When you spend time with a newborn baby, you can see God’s love reflected in that child. Learning what the Bible says about babies will help you find a verse you can use for inspiration, as well as to pray for newborn babies and their parents. Enjoy these Bible verses and prayers for a newborn baby.

Does the Bible Talk about Newborns?

The Bible mentions newborns in many passages that describe the births of various people in the Bible. That includes the Christmas story, which records how God himself chose to come to Earth in the form of Jesus Christ, starting his earthly life as a newborn baby. Also, the Bible speaks about God’s loving care and wise plans for all newborn babies. Jesus urges us in the Bible to take good care of babies and to learn from them spiritually.

20 Bible Verses for a Newborn Baby

Here are 20 key Bible verses about newborn babies:

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” – Psalm 139:13-16

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.” – Psalm 127:3-5

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” – John 16:21

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” – Jeremiah 29:11

“He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,” – Luke 1:14

“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.” – Psalm 8:1-2

“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.” – Ecclesiastes 11:5

“All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.” – Isaiah 54:13

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” – Matthew 19:14

“He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.’” – Mark 9:36-37

“‘Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” – Mark 10:15-16

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 18:10

“Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” – 1 Peter 2:1-3

“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” – 1 Samuel 1:27-28

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” – Galatians 4:4-5

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” – Luke 2:6-7

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” – Colossians 1:15

2 Prayers We Can Say for Newborn Babies

God can speak powerfully to us all through newborn babies. In my book Wake Up to Wonder, I write that babies are souls who come into this world with curious minds and open hearts, which are important qualities for noticing the wonder of God’s work. You can see God’s love reflected in any newborn baby you spend time with. So, support the newborn babies you know in prayer, as they start their life journeys. Here are two different prayers for newborn babies:

A prayer for protection: “Dear God, thank you for the wonderful gift of this baby. Please protect [him or her] from all spiritual and physical harm. Bless this baby with well-being in soul and body as [he or she] grows. Empower every person who cares for this little one to do so well. Send your holy angels, as well, to help this baby throughout [his or her] journey through life. Please shine your light on this child in our dark world, and empower [him or her] to learn your wisdom and enjoy a close relationship with you. Amen.”

A prayer for faith: “Dear God, thank you for giving life to this baby. May your good purposes for [his or her] life be fulfilled. Please meet this child and [his or her] parents wherever they are in their faith, and let them perceive your presence with them. Show them how to trust you more day by day. Encourage them as they walk with you, so that their faith keeps growing stronger and their relationships with you keep growing closer. Amen.”

Conclusion

The newborn babies in your life are powerful reminders of God’s love at work. As these children start their earthly lives, they can inspire you, and you can help them learn and grow. So, use these Bible verses and prayers to bless the newborns you know!
