Actress Candace Cameron Bure is encouraging her social media followers to read through the Bible in one year, saying it will encourage them and draw them closer to God.
The Great American Family actress and filmmaker on Monday said she was reading through the Bible in one year as part of the Bible Recap plan, which involves a short podcast and a daily selection from a book by Tara-Leigh Cobble summarizing and explaining each day's reading.
Bure made the comments on Instagram, where she has 5.6 million followers.
"Who's reading and listening to the @thebiblerecap with me? If you haven't started, it's never too late! You'll be so encouraged to read the entire Bible chronologically with @taraleighcobble because she's fun and helps us see who God is in the Bible – not just ourselves," Bure wrote.
The Bible Recap podcast often ranks among the most popular podcasts on mainstream charts, such as Apple Podcasts.
Bure said she is going through the Bible Recap with two friends. The study guide, she said, "is allowing me to go deeper" into the Bible. The Bible Recap, she added, has
"changed the way I read the Bible."
"I love it," she said.
Bure and Cobble are co-hosts of the debut season of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, where they discuss biblical themes. Recent podcasts spotlighted the Holy Spirit and the deity of Christ.
On Bure's timeline, actresses Tamera Mowry, Taylor Kalupa and Danica McKellar all indicated that they, too, are taking part in the Bible Recap reading plan.
"I'm in love with it," Mowry wrote.
The Bible Recap, Cobble said, is for Christians who are sometimes confused after reading Scripture.
"I wanted this to be different from a lot of daily Bible reading plans that always end with an application of how you should apply the lessons you've learned," she told Forbes. "They're usually something about what does it tell you about your life and how you should live. I just feel like that's a broken lens through which to view Scripture. The primary role of Scripture is to show me who God is, and if I behold God, then my life will naturally begin to conform around what I learned about Him."
