Psalm 145:4

“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”

Think of how to elevate God in the hearts and minds of the next generation!

Notice that the verse doesn’t say one generation shall merely teach your works to another. It says, one generation shall commend your works to another.

The way we speak about God to the next generation matters. If we speak in a manner that is cold and passionless we will communicate half-truths at best.

The unequaled sacrifice of Christ on the cross, the unrivaled victory of the empty grave, the unimaginable salvation freely offered, should create in us a deep-seated excitement and gratitude about who our God is and what he has done for us.

A passion should fill our hearts, a passion that should bloom and spread its aroma when we are at home doing laundry, playing with our children, having dinner with our extended family, attending a birthday party, serving at kids church, or speaking at a youth event.

A passion for praising God for who he is that is genuine and kind and doesn't present itself with an attitude of superiority (‘back in my day’ kind of talk), Bible-bashing kind of talk, or faith-questioning kind of talk (‘How can you love God and get a tattoo?’)

The generation that comes behind us is a generation that seeks the truth. Not well-argued, well-preached, well-structured, but lifeless truth. No, they seek truth that has been experienced, truth that has been lived out, truth that has stood the test of time and has not withered in the storms of life.

We have that truth! Let’s share it with passion and conviction. Let’s share it day in and day out. Let’s share it when we feel like it and when we don’t. Let’s share it to the point that it becomes contagious and the next generation catches it… and the generation after them catches it… and the generation after them catches it!
