Confession to God Leads to Freedom - Love Worth Finding - January 15

January 15, 2024 – Confession to God Leads to Freedom
Isaiah 1:18-20
Sermon: 2045 The Last Step on the Way Down, Part 2

Pray Over This

“‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the LORD, ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword;’ for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
Isaiah 1:18-20

Ponder This

You may say, “Pastor, you made me feel bad with this message about sin, because, very frankly, my life has been touched by immorality.” I want to tell you something, that’s what this Book is all about—good news! It’s the bad news that makes the good news good. The Bible says of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, “it is the power of God to salvation” (Romans 1:16). God is a God of grace; God is a God of forgiveness; God is a God of another chance; and God is a God who says, “Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Hallelujah for such a Gospel. Thank God for this: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

There’s one thing God will never accept when it comes to sin, and that is an excuse. But when there comes a confession, thank God. The cleansing tides of Calvary sweep across the human soul and every blot, blur, and blemish is washed whiter than snow by Jesus’ blood.

  • When have you been overwhelmed with guilt? How did the Gospel impact you in that time?
  • Why do you think we feel tempted to give excuses and alibis instead of confessing our sin to God?
