Their Parents Divorced Years Ago, but Then They Fall in Love Again in a ‘Real-Life Parent Trap’

We’ve all watched The Parent Trap, either the 1961 version with Hayley Mills or the 1998 version with Lindsay Lohan. But could something like that happen in real life? Julie Shore, Scott Gaede, and their two daughters, Rachel, 24, and Caroline, 20, say that it did.

They Had Been Separated for Almost Ten Years

Julie and Scott met over 25 years ago, dated for three years, were engaged for a year, and got married back in 1997. They had two daughters, but in 2014, after about 17 years of marriage, decided to separate.

Julie told People, "I think where we first broke down was really communication and just losing that element of being able to speak and really hear, really listen and understand one another.”

The couple finalized their divorce in 2018 and began dating other people, co-parenting their daughters. However, in 2020, when COVID happened, things started to change.

The girls were living with their mother and needed to follow strict guidelines to keep their grandmother safe. Scott would also need to do so if he wanted to see them.

“He would visit during that time, and that’s what brought him back into my world or brought each other back into each other’s worlds,” Julie told People.

The Sisters Knew Something Was Up

Rachel started to notice that Julie seemed to have a crush on Scott. In a TikTok video, she talks about how she and her sister saw a photo of the two of them and realized there was something there. She and her sister Caroline were also part of the engagement process.

It was later, during a funeral, that Julie herself realized that they needed to be together again. She said to People, “That was my moment where it was very much, we have to be together, and it’s beyond whatever problems we had. Whatever problems existed just fell away.”

Julie and Scott took a trip together and then ended up buying a house together soon after. They got remarried this past December in Cincinnati, OH, with their daughters by their side.
