Candace Cameron Bure on How Her Acting Career Sparked Her Faith

Alicia Searl

Candace Cameron Bure’s acting career may have started as a child with the well-known character portrayed on Full House as big sister D.J. Tanner, but her stardom has only skyrocketed from there. She is now a beloved actress, notably being dubbed as “The Queen of Christmas,” playing endearing and relatable characters, along with producing films, being a talk show panelist, and hosting her very own podcast.

Yet, amid her busy schedule and huge success, she is not one to hold back when it comes to speaking about her faith and boldly credits God for her many blessings. With grace and humility, she shares with Movieguide the many emotions and spiritual lessons the entertainment industry has taught her, even being moved to tears at one point, recalling the courage she needed as a co-host on The View.

In a recent podcast, Candace candidly speaks about her childhood and the positive experience she had in those formative years working with the Full House team, where they became like family. However, in her own personal life, growing up was a bit different. Bure shared how she was raised in a home where her mom was a believer, but her father was not, leading to tension and friction. It was only when her parents were on the brink of a divorce that her family began a journey of going to church, and that spun up her own inquiries about God. So, at age twelve, she pledged her heart to Jesus but didn’t necessarily know what that meant or even looked like.

When it came time to raise her own family, she found that she and her husband, Val, began to question how they were going to raise their own children. She states, “I’m just so grateful for that time that I stayed home and was with the kids and could really focus on them and also my relationship with God because that’s where I grew tremendously in my faith.” She continued by saying how the challenges of motherhood caused her to dig deeper into the Bible and that each of her children loved the Lord, but her son, Lev, “got a little extra dose of the Spirit at a young age.”

Now Candace has three grown children that she proudly says “She can be friends with,” and she spends most of her time working at the Great American Family channel. “I absolutely love working with the network. I am there helping build this from the ground up,” she excitedly proclaims. She continues by saying, “We focus on faith, family, and country.” Great American Family’s goal is to bring wholesome and sweet romantic stories to their viewers. Now, with Christmas right around the corner, their main mission is to wrap those simply sweet stories in the real meaning of the season and honor Jesus. You can snag the Christmas movie schedule on their Instagram page here.

Candace Cameron portrays an honest and pure heart when sharing her faith, and while she has faced backlash, she continues to stand firm in her convictions and stand with God. It’s a valuable lesson we can all learn, knowing our faith may not be well received, but we must continue to speak with truth, love, and grace. May God continue to bless Candace and her mission to share His message of hope and love within the entertainment industry. Like many, I personally look forward to seeing her Christmas spirit in some of those new movies on GAF!
