Franklin Graham Says God Spared Trump’s Life to Turn America ‘Back to God’

Evangelist Franklin Graham said Wednesday he believes God spared the life of Donald Trump from an assassin's bullet so the former president could reclaim the White House. Graham made the remarks hours after Trump himself raised the possibility of divine intervention as he spoke to the nation on Election Night. Trump won back the presidency thanks to a strong showing in the South, Southwest, and industrial heartland.

"Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason, and that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfill that mission together," Trump said during his victory speech. "We're going to fulfill that mission."

Graham echoed those comments during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored. There is, Graham said, "no question" that God intervened. Graham is president of Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

"When he was there in Pennsylvania, and that bullet went through his ear, just missing his brain by a millimeter or so, I believe God turned his head at that precise moment that saved his life," Graham said. "And so there's no other way to explain it. And then to have another assassin waiting for him on the golf course, and they were able to spoil that. I believe it's God -- no question. I think God has saved him and brought him to this position."

Trump won the presidency some four months after he survived an assassination attempt while speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania when a gunman perched on a rooftop attempted to end his life. Just before the bullet reached its mark, Trump tilted his head slightly to the right, causing the bullet to graze his ear but miss his brain.

"I think God has protected him and saved him for a very special job," Graham added. "And that is to turn this nation ... around and also turn it back to God. When he won last night, that was a win for freedom, freedom of speech, for the American farmer, for the oil and gas industry. It's a win for the coal industry. It's a win for common sense. It's [for] so many people [including] the unborn, I think about the millions of children that are going to be saved in the coming years because of Donald Trump."
