Matthew West, known for delivering powerful songs and lyrics, wants to be also known as an author in his new book Come Home for Christmas. West wants everyone to know that no matter where you are or what you're dealing with, Christmas can be a time to renew your relationship with Jesus.
West is clear in his writings that if we put Jesus first in our lives, we can see the gift that Jesus has placed in front of us.
In a sit down interview with Crosswalk Headlines, West opens up about what he loves about Christmas along with his passion for ministry.
Crosswalk Headlines: What do you want the audience to walk away with from the book?
Matthew West: My hope is that this book will bring readers home to the true meaning of Christmas. That they would rediscover the wonder they felt as a child and return their hearts to the joy, peace, love and the hope found in Jesus. Jesus was born for you to bring light to your darkness. The light of the world is here, and I want readers to be reminded that He is with you and will lead the way for you to come home this holiday season.
CWH: What do you enjoy about the Christmas season?
MW: I love family traditions with my girls and having everyone home for the holidays. We also host the Come Home For Christmas weekend and enjoy welcoming a few hundred fans to Franklin, TN, to enjoy whimsical festivities with the West family!
CWH: What can adults learn from Children in experiencing Christmas?
MW: Children are always eager for Christmas. Their joy and excitement is so pure, and I want to invite readers to come back to experiencing the holidays in the same way.
CWH: What did you learn about yourself through the book writing process?
MW: While writing this book, I loved getting to reflect on my childhood and be a storyteller of my favorite Christmas memories. I learned to truly cherish the memories, the good and the bad. Studying Luke chapter 2 brought me closer to Jesus as I reflected on the humble way Jesus came into our world.
CWH: What is one of your favorite childhood Christmas memories?
MW: My mom and dad always made our family Christmas special. It wasn't all about the gifts, but the way they lavished gifts on us was a great example of how God lavishes the gifts of his love on us. I loved Christmas mornings and gathering around the tree with my family.
CWH: You're always producing quality work, so what's next?
MW: Lots of exciting things to come- I'm looking forward to working on more music, books, and maybe some more Christmas!!
