The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

--2 Chronicles 16:9

When you draw near to God, there is infallible wisdom to direct you, perfect love to keep you, and eternal power to protect you. God’s will for His people is not held captive to the ups and downs of human existence.

One of the lasting images I have from the 2000 presidential election night coverage is commentator Tim Russert, who sat in the network control room with his little erasable board and marker, showing the various combinations of state electoral votes that George W. Bush or Al Gore needed to win the White House.

The lineup kept changing throughout the night as the votes came in, and that man’s erasable board almost took on a life of its own. We saw how easily one state could turn the entire election around.

This may be the way we elect presidents, but it’s not the way God operates His world. He’s not sitting in heaven with a marker and an erasable board, changing His plans in response to what happens on earth. Instead, the Bible says, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). It is trust that moves the heart of God.

If you want an exciting adventure, live each day trusting God from your heart. The greatest opportunities in life are given to those who are willing to say, “Lord, my life is Yours. I trust You explicitly and completely. I take my hands off my life. I no longer trust in me, but I trust in You.”

I’m not suggesting that we just shove our brains into neutral and coast through life. As we experience things along the way, we’re certainly to try and discern what God is teaching and where He’s leading us, but we’re not to trust in our own understanding. I challenge you to remember that during those times when we don’t see where God is taking us, we can lean on His love and goodness. Even when things around us seem unfair and life doesn’t seem to have any rhyme or reason, we can trust God to make a way where there is no way.

HE’S GUIDING AND GUARDING US ALL THE WAY.
