10 Hymns That Never Get Old

10 Hymns That Never Get Old

When you try to create a list of 10 hymns that never get old, the first problem is you are only limited to ten. This by itself means that your ten and my ten are going to be different. With that in mind, I will present a list of ten hymns that have stuck to my soul over the years, not just because of the melody but because of their timeless messages. I will ask for grace upfront because I know I will probably leave out a hymn you think should be on the list. I will not attempt to rank these in any order because that would be an almost impossible task for me. Whichever hymn landed number one today would most likely be related to how it is ministering to me at that moment, so number one would always be changing. Aside from that, my more significant prayer is as you go through the list that these hymns' melodies and messages would resonate in your soul. Hopefully, they will bless you and lead you to a place of worship because that is what they do for me.

Here are 10 hymns that never get old:

    1. How Great Thou Art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

The greatness of our God truly goes beyond our imagination. Sometimes the word 'great' seems too small to describe God. However, this hymn forever reminds me of God's majesty and greatness. The lyrics of this hymn bring you to consider the awe of God in creation, the wonder of God in sending Jesus to the cross, and the expectant hope in Jesus' return. They all point to a heart that sings about how great God really is. I hope you can hear the melody ringing in your head as you think of our great God.

    2. Amazing Grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now I'm found

Was blind but now I see

Where would we be without the grace of God? Our salvation and the life we live in Christ are all the result of God's grace. Grace that covers sin, grace that is greater than our sin, and grace that will allow us to spend eternity in God's presence. When we've been there ten thousand years we will still be celebrating in God's presence because of his amazing grace.

    3. Great Is Thy Faithfulness

    Great is Thy faithfulness

    Great is Thy faithfulness

Morning by morning new mercies I see

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me

Apart from God's love I am blown away by God's faithfulness. To be honest I am often moved to tears when I think of how faithful God has been to me, especially when I consider all my moments of unfaithfulness. Time and again, year after year God remains true to his word. He has walked with me and you through every step of your life and has proven himself faithful.

    4. All Hail The Power of Jesus Name

All hail the power of Jesus' name!

    Let angels prostrate fall.

    Bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown him Lord of all.

    Bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown him Lord of all!

This hymn just gives me a picture of Jesus sitting on the throne and we are crowning him King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Proclaiming Jesus as Lord in a hymn will never get old. I am reminded of Philippians where every knew will bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. We should take everyday and remember to crown him Lord of all.

    5. Blessed Assurance

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

This hymn never gets old because we are reminded of the hope in our salvation and the hope we find in Christ. I believe this song is one of hope and hope sings. Singing of assurance because we are heirs of salvation, purchased of God, born of his Spirit, and washed in his blood. If this is your story lets sing it out loud and strong.

  • 6. I Am Thine O Lord

    6. I Am Thine O Lord

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

    To the cross where Thou hast died;

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

    To Thy precious, bleeding side.

Sometimes the pressures of life cause you to lose your way. This song always brings me back to a place of consecration. Staying near the cross keeps you humble and broken, and this is why this is a hymn that never gets old. Oh, that we would seek to draw nearer to Jesus and to be more like him. I don't know about you but just the thought of that brings excitement to my soul and hopefully to yours as well.

    7. My Jesus I Love Thee

My Jesus I love Thee, I know Thou art mine

For Thee all the follies of sin I resign

My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou

If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

There are moments when we need to express our love to Jesus and what he means to us. Remembering this expression of love is not complete without our commitment to him. Regardless of the price we must pay in this life, loving Jesus is worth it all. One day we will see him face to face and we can say if ever I loved you my Jesus tis now.

    8. Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus

Look full in his wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of his glory and grace

Let's face it life can be challenging and there are moments when it can be demoralizing. In those moments we need to turn our eyes upon Jesus. When we do this, it gives us perspective. This song reminds me to keep things in proper order.

    9. At The Cross

At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the Light

And the burden of my heart rolled away, rolled away

It was there by Faith, I received my sight

And now I am happy all the day

The reason this is a hymn that never gets old is because this is the place where our salvation was purchased. This hymn always takes me back to the day I first gave my life to Jesus. That was a long time ago but that changed my life forever and it all began at the cross.

  • 10. The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power

    10. The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power

It reaches to the highest mountain

It flows to the lowest valley

The blood that gives me strength

    From day to day

It will never lose its power

What can we say about the power of the blood of Jesus. We have all overcome by the blood of the Lamb. It was his blood that was spilled for my sin that has cleansed me forever. This blood will never lose its power and it is still cleansing people from sin.
