4 Prayers to Gift Your Spouse This Valentine's Day

There are many creative Valentine's Day gifts out there, as well as countless Pinterest boards for inspiration. But recently, as I was scrolling through all the hearts and glitter, I was struck with a gift idea that costs nothing more than a prayer.

This year, consider writing or typing a heartfelt prayer for your spouse. Include Scriptures that make them feel loved and appreciated. And if you like, add a small tangible gift for them to open and enjoy.

If you're wanting something extra meaningful this year, here are four prayers to gift your spouse.

1. A Prayer for Peace

Of all the prayers spoken worldwide, I imagine the prayer for peace is at the top of the list. I can almost envision the incense rising before God's throne as millions petition Him for blessings of peace and safety.

Could your spouse use more peace these days? Spend time writing a Scripture-inspired prayer for the peace of God to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Consider recording your prayer and sending it in a text or video.

Bible verses to include:

Isaiah 26:3 ESV - "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."

John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

2 Thessalonians 3:16 - "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you."

Tangible gift ideas:

A coloring book of the Psalms

A peaceful painting

A bedtime devotional for couples

A bath set with candles

Heavenly Father, please bless my spouse with abundant peace today, calming their mind and soothing their heart. Help them feel comfortable sharing their troubles. Give me a listening ear so they feel heard and valued. I pray for Your peace to cover them at work, in our home, and in our community. Let Your peace guard them in Christ Jesus, giving them a sense of calm in a chaotic world. Thank you for my spouse, Lord. Bless them this Valentine's Day in every way, in Jesus' name, amen.

2. A Prayer for Motivation

Valentine's Day gift couple

We all need a little more motivation from time to time, and Valentine's Day can be a wonderful opportunity to encourage your spouse with a motivating prayer for their current season of life.

Whether they're successfully achieving their goals or struggling to hit the target, offering gifts of motivation can be the perfect boost this holiday.

Bible verses for motivation:

2 Chronicles 15:7 - "But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Tangible gift ideas for motivation:

New running shoes or exercise equipment

A specialty food basket with organic treats

A massage gift card

A weekend getaway

Gracious God, please give my spouse the motivation to do what You've called them to do. Help them rise in the morning with energy and vitality. Let their work be enjoyable and valuable to others. When they're down, Lord, be the lifter of their head, breathing new life into them and boosting their endurance. Help me come alongside them, filling in the gaps when I can and giving them breaks when needed. Thank You for my hard-working spouse. Guard and guide them in the way they should go, in Jesus' name, amen.

3. A Prayer for Unity

Happy couple on Valentine's Day

Holidays like Valentine's Day and anniversaries provide opportunities for couples to reconnect. Even if you're not getting along, these celebrations usually override the tension—even for a few hours.

This year, why not get ahead of things and begin praying for unity? Pray for your spouse's heart toward God and others. Go boldly to the throne and ask for your marital bond to be strengthened. Pray for the Lord to reveal the obstacles standing in the way of unity, and be willing to address your own part.

Consider these Bible verses:

1 Corinthians 1:10 - "I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."

2 Corinthians 13:11 - "Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you."

4. A Prayer for God's Love

Woman praying

How often have you prayed for God's love to be made known to your spouse in mighty ways? What a powerful way to bless them this Valentine's Day!

Meditate on these Bible verses:

Psalm 86:5 ESV - "For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you."

Ephesians 2:4 - "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."

Romans 8:35&37 NLT - "Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."

Tangible gift ideas:

Jewelry with the inscription, "More precious than gold"

Scripture coffee mug

Christian apparel like this t-shirt

Inspiring classics such as "The Love of God" by Oswald Chambers

Holy God, You are merciful and mighty, and I pray for Your love to be shown to my spouse in wonderful ways. From when they wake up in the morning to when their head hits the pillow, let them know without a doubt that You love them unconditionally. Wrap Your hedge of comfort around them, helping them feel safe, protected, and guarded against the influences of the enemy. Remind them of the joy of their salvation through Christ Jesus, filling their heart with immense gratitude for what You've done. Thank You for my spouse, Lord, and for another opportunity to celebrate Valentine's Day in a special way. Let these prayers be more valuable than any gift I could give. In Your Son's precious name, amen.
