4 Things Christians Should Know about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

U.S. Health Secretary nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) has been getting grilled by the Senate committee in connection to his stance on vaccines. Kennedy has been vocal in the past about his concern that vaccines can cause Autism in children, and he was not a supporter of the Covid-19 vaccine because of how it was fast-tracked through the research process and rushed to the marketplace during the pandemic.

Kennedy is a supporter of finding natural means to treat diseases, and he is not a lone ranger in such line of thinking. A letter was sent to the U.S. Senate and signed by hundreds of people in the healthcare industry who are supporters of finding natural means to treat diseases. The letter was intended to sway the Senate committee to confirm RFK Jr.'s nomination, according to The Guardian.

1. RFK Jr. Plans to Accomplish 3 Things for Trump

Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy

During an interview with NPR, Kennedy said, "President Trump has given me three instructions: He wants the corruption and the conflicts out of the regulatory agencies. He wants to return the agencies to the gold standard of empirically based, evidence-based science and medicine that they were once famous for. And he wants to end the chronic disease epidemic with measurable impacts on a diminishment of chronic disease within two years."

He said there wasn't an intention of getting rid of vaccines. Rather, there was going to be a renewed focus on making sure that American families had "good information right now."

"The science on vaccine safety particularly has huge deficits, and we're going to make sure those scientific studies are done and that people can make informed choices about their vaccinations and their children's vaccinations," he said.

Once approved, Trump wants Kennedy to lead a large Cabinet agency that would supervise and govern drugs, vaccines, food safety, medical research, Medicare and Medicaid. Kennedy would also be in charge of health policy, according to the AP.

3. RFK Jr. Claims He'll Support Trump's Policies Regarding Abortion

"President Trump has told me that he wants to end late-term abortions, he wants to protect conscientious exemptions, and that he wants to end federal funding for abortions abroad," RFK Jr. said during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday, according to MSNBC. "I serve at the pleasure of the president. I'm going to implement his policies."

This is a quick shift from just last year when he was running as an independent against Trump in the presidential election and was pro-choice.

Once he's confirmed, he said Trump also wants him to "study the safety of mifepristone," which is an abortion medication.

"There's no question that we need a pro-life HHS secretary, and of course, we have concerns about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.," SBA Pro-Life President Marjorie Dannenfelser told Politico.

She went on to state that her organization intends to continue pushing and fighting for the re-establishment of a specific standard in connection to pro-life policies from Trump's first term.

4. RFK Jr. Grew Up in a Catholic Family

Young RFK Jr.

Kennedy grew up in a staunchly Catholic family. They attended church on a regular basis, prayed the rosary daily, prayed before and after meals and read about the lives of the saints and a portion of the Bible every night, according to an interview he did with Eric Metaxas that was picked up by The Christian Post.

Then, after the assassination of his father during his 1968 presidential campaign, he turned to heroin as a comfort and a way to manage the emotional pain and became an addict. He was only 15 at the time.

"To me, most of the demoralizing feature of addiction was my incapacity to keep contracts with myself. I would tell myself at 9 o'clock in the morning, I'm never going to do that again, and at 4 o'clock, I'd be doing it," he said.

He finally managed to get sober in September of 1983 because of a book he came across by Carl Jung called Synchronicity. He says the principles in the book helped him to get free from his addiction and get back to having God as a part of his life.
