5 Things Christians Need to Know about Pete Hegseth

President-elect Donald Trump sent some shockwaves through mainstream media and the Pentagon with his pick of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Besides being a Fox News Chanel Co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend” for a decade, Hegseth also developed a friendship with Trump during that time. He has shown himself to be a Trump loyalist and is staunchly conservative in how he feels US defense ought to be handled. Here are 5 things Christians may be interested to know about Pete Hegseth.

    1. Pete Hegseth Is Unashamedly Christian

In visiting his website, Pete Hegseth claims to be a Christian in the very first sentence, as well as a husband, father, and patriot. The family man is the father of seven children, according to Daily Citizen

Hegseth was raised in a Christian home and says his parents had a strong faith and valued family tradition. The family attended a Baptist church, but Hegseth told Daily Citizen, “My school life was totally separate from my church life, from my family, and they never reinforced each other.

It’s fair to say I had a Christian veneer but a secular core, and I thought I was ready to go out into the world and profess Christ. I wasn’t,” he said.

When he began attending college, he studied politics and took a class on Christianity.

“I presumed [the class] would explain the gospels. Taught by an atheist famous for studying the Gnostic gospels, the professor believed Jesus died, was buried in a shallow grave, and was eaten by dogs. I realized I was not prepared to combat such thinking and went to the library to read dusty books that pointed to and explained the veracity of the gospels. Defending my faith became an academic endeavor because I sensed faith and the Bible were good. As my pastor pointed out, ‘Many people miss Jesus by 12 inches – the distance from their head to their heart,’ I fell squarely into that category,” he told Daily Citizen.

This early experience in his life is the foundation that inspired his book Battle for the American Mind

    2. Pete Hegseth Is a Veteran

He mentions being an Army veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay on his website. Hegseth has also earned two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge. In addition, his work with Fox News is noted, as well as the fact he authored several books. His most recent book, Battle for the American Mind, was on the New York Times best-sellers list for over twelve weeks.

In this particular book, he hits on how the liberal agenda in the education system has had a negative impact on the minds of America’s children and offers conservative parents insights into how they can fight back, according to book publisher Harper Collins.

    3. Pete Hegseth Doesn’t Believe Women Should Be in Combat

“Everything about men and women serving together makes the situation more complicated, and complication in combat means casualties are worse,” Hegseth said during an interview last week on “The Shawn Ryan Show” picked up by the AP.

“I’m straight up just saying that we should not have women in combat roles — it hasn’t made us more effective, hasn’t made us more lethal, has made fighting more complicated,” he said.

He went on to note that when women are put in combat roles, “We’ve changed the standards in putting them there, which means you’ve changed the capability of that unit.”

    4. Pete Hegseth Is Sounding the Alarm Regarding Woke Agenda in Military

In his book, War on Warriors, Hegseth stated that “The military is where our country needs – desperately – patriotic, faith-filled, and brave young Americans to step up and take the long view. At a basic level, do we really want only the woke ‘diverse’ recruits that the Biden administration is curating to be the ones with the guns and guidons?”

He goes on to note in the book the crucial need for things to change in the military because “the so-called elites directing the military today” are not only lowering standards, but they are working to weed out young patriots and pushing an agenda of “poisonous ideologies” that are weakening the American military at a time when America’s enemies, “still understand that a soldier needs to be powerful, skilled, and courageous.”

    5. Pete Hegseth Is Taking Office at a Strategic Time in World’s History

The Russia-Ukraine war is becoming increasingly complex and dangerous. Multiple countries are now involved, even if only supplying munitions. One of the most concerning developments in this conflict is that North Korea now has boots on the ground and is fighting alongside Russia.

In response to that, the US, UK, and France gave Ukraine permission to fire long-range missiles deep into Russian territory over the weekend, according to MSN

Russia’s response to that was a threat that a nuclear conflict could take place even before Christmas, and they see this situation as the start of a “direct war on Russia” by Britain, America, and France, according to MSN

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also been in contact with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Scholz tried to convince him to pull out of Ukraine and give back the territory Russia has invaded. When Putin refused, Scholz told him that Germany would “…support Ukraine for as long as necessary in its defensive struggle against Russian aggression,” according to MSN.

During the presidential debate between Trump and Harris last month, Trump stated that he believed that America was on the edge of World War III. Fast forward to November, and Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JP Morgan Chase says it has already begun, according to WND

Dimon stated that the most significant risk that mankind faces isn’t climate change, “It’s nuclear proliferation. We’ve never had a situation where a man is threatening nuclear blackmail. If that doesn’t scare you, it should. We’ve got to be very careful about what we’re trying to accomplish in the next couple of years.”

In addition to the Russia-Ukraine war, there is also ongoing instability in the Middle East as various terror groups conduct missile attacks on Israel, and Israel responds to defend herself.

“Pete has spent his entire life as a Warrior for the Troops and for the Country,” Trump said in a statement picked up by CNN last week. “Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First. With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice - Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down.”
