5 Things You Should Know about Trump's God Bless the USA Bible

Former President Donald Trump's God Bless the USA Bible could very well be one of the most controversial books of the 21st century. Ironically, it's paired with the popular and non-controversial Lee Greenwood country song, "God Bless the USA."

    1. Why Trump Wanted God Bless the USA Bible Released

Trump created a YouTube video in which he said he is "proud to be partnering with my very good friend Lee Greenwood" in connection to the release of the God Bless the USA Bible

Trump claims that this particular Bible includes a copy of The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and The Pledge of Allegiance.

He said the reason he wanted to make a Bible available with these documents in it is because "…Many of you have never read them and don't know the liberty and rights you have as Americans and how you are being threatened to lose those rights. It's happening all the time. It's a very sad thing that's going on in our country, but we're going to get it turned around."

In regard to the Constitution alone, The Heritage Foundation quoted a poll conducted by Marquette University Law School, which found that 57 percent of Americans haven't read the Constitution.

    2. Trump Feels Christianity Is Slipping Away in America

Trump also said that he feels that Christianity is slipping away in America and that the God Bless the USA Bible is intended to be a reminder that one of the most important aspects of making America great again is connected to restoring its waning Judeo-Christian values.

"In the end, we do not answer to bureaucrats in Washington; we answer to God in Heaven," he said.

He went on to note that Christians are "under siege" and that it's important to "protect content that is pro-God. We love God, and we have to protect anything that is pro-God. We must defend God in the public square and not allow the media or the left-wing groups to silence, sensor, or discriminate against us."

He added that America's founding fathers built America on Judeo-Christian values, and "now that foundation is under attack, perhaps as never before. What can we do? Stand up, speak out, and pray that God will bless America again."

    3. What's Actually Inside the God Bless the USA Bible?

Tim Wildsmith, a YouTube content creator, posted a video he made in which he opened up a God Bless the USA Bible and showed what's inside it via an overhead camera. All of the documents about America are found in the back of the Bible after the book of Revelation. The documents consist of the following:

    • The lyrics to Lee Greenwood's song "God Bless The USA " are handwritten. One might guess that they are written in Lee Greenwood's handwriting.
    • The Declaration of Independence and its signers.
    • The Constitution.
    • The Bill of Rights.
    • The Pledge of Allegiance.

The God Bless the USA Bible is not a study Bible, so there are no footnotes, no commentary, no Bible dictionary, and no concordance. The pages are made of paper, which is typical of any Bible. Wildsmith couldn't find any obvious evidence that the God Bless the USA Bible was made or printed in China or the USA, though the AP claims they allegedly found evidence through research that it was printed in China. Wildsmith also noted that the version selected for the God Bless the USA Bible is The King James version of the Bible.

    4. Lee Greenwood Is a Part of the Trump Campaign

Lee Greenwood has been involved in the Trump campaign and even attended the RNC. While there, he sang his song "God Bless the USA" as Trump took the stage. That was Trump's first speech after the assassination attempt. The Trump campaign is not the first campaign to use Greenwood's song.

    5. God Bless the USA Bible Gets Mixed Reactions from Christian Leaders

The God Bless the USA Bible has had its challenges with regard to getting out to the public. It was originally intended to ship on September 11, 2021. The scheduling was intentionally connected to what would have been the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, according to Christian Century. But even then, it was a controversial book, so it received pushback from Christians and Christian leaders.

When it became available in the spring of 2024, the controversy hadn't cooled at all. Family Research Council president Tony Perkins felt that if the God Bless the USA Bible actually motivates people to read the Bible, then it would be something he could support.

"That is great news!" Perkins told Christian Post. "The truths of the Bible transform lives. A daily dose of the Bible is the best anti-anxiety medicine you will find. For those getting into the Word, I'd recommend checking out Family Research Council's daily Bible reading plan, which will take you through the Bible in two years."

At the same time, Pastor Ben Marsh of First Alliance Church feels that the God Bless the USA Bible is nothing more than Christian nationalism that will lead to violence.

"We are in a time when political violence is just kind of the air that we're breathing," he told CNN in a recent interview. "And people are so afraid. It comes back to fear. So Trump supporters looking at democrats, if they win, they're going to commit all these atrocities. We have Christian leaders saying, 'They're gonna lock you up, they're gonna take away your pulpits, just rampant lies.'"

Dr. Peter Kerr, dean and professor at Colorado Christian University's School of Business and Leadership, believes that including America's founding documents in the Bible to commemorate America's beginnings is harmless.

"Inserting America's founding documents into a Bible is not wrong. The men who wrote them were followers of God and even said in the Declaration of Independence that God endowed us with certain rights the government cannot take away," Kerr told Fox News. "As long as people can differentiate God's words from human words, it doesn't matter if they were published inside the same cover."
