7 Bible Verses to Include in Your Grandchild's Valentine

As of the date writing this, my husband and I have seven grandchildren. We can hardly wrap our minds around the fact that seven precious kids have seven pieces of our hearts.

As a Nana, I'm always looking for ways to connect with them, as well as share my love for God's Word. And Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity. Tucked in with foil-wrapped kisses, stickers, and other holiday trinkets, Valentines can include Bible verses that speak directly to their little hearts. So, if you're a grandparent wanting to bless your grandchild this Valentine's Day, here are 7 Bible verses to include.

1. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love."

This passage reminds our grandkids to be on guard against temptation, firm in their faith, and courageous in the Lord. All of these things are wrapped in a beautiful bow, encouraging them to let God's love motivate their actions.

Consider including a Bible affirmation saying, "You are strong in the Lord, courageous and kind!" You can also add a short prayer, mentioning them by name and saying, "Lord, please help [NAME] to be courageous and strong. Remind them to do everything in love."

More fun things to include:

2. 1 John 3:18

Happy Valentine's Day card

"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

This verse goes with any Valentine's card or gift as a reminder to put faith into action. You might include a list of ways your grandchild can love others by serving them. Here are a few examples:

Set the table for your mom

Stand up for a friend at school

Help your brother or sister with their chores

Shovel snow for your neighbor

Add a short prayer, saying, "Lord, please show my grandchild ways to put love into action. Give them a heart to help others, in Jesus' name."

More fun things to include:

A piece of bubble gum taped to a card that says, "Stick with Jesus!"

3. Colossians 3:14 (NLT)

"Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony."

If you're a grandparent who likes to give gifts on Valentine's Day, this verse could be paired with items such as ball caps, scarves, t-shirts, jewelry, or fuzzy socks. Emphasize the phrase "clothe yourselves with love" and encourage your grandchild to display love wherever they go.

Add this prayer: "Lord, please help my grandchild put on love to show others who You are, in Jesus' name."

4. Psalm 37:4

Writing letter

"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

This delightful verse can be tucked into any Valentine for any grandchild. It points them to the joy of the Lord instead of the fleeting pleasures of the world. Consider including examples of what it means to take delight in the Lord, such as:

Reading the Bible every day

Writing prayers to Jesus

Listening to praise and worship music

Watching Christian movies

Add a sweet prayer, saying, "Lord, please fill my grandchild's heart with overflowing joy. Help them take delight in You!"

5. 1 John 4:19

"We love because he first loved us."

In a world where love has been redefined, grandparents need to emphasize the source of love—God. Explain to your grandchildren how God first loved us, enabling us to love others. Without God, there would be no love at all!

Add a prayer that says, "Lord, please help my grandchild experience Your love in the most wonderful of ways, giving their heart to You, in Jesus' name."

For this Valentine, it might be a good idea to include the gospel message, especially for older grandchildren who can grasp what it means to follow Jesus. Keep your language simple by saying, "Did you know Jesus is the only way to heaven? God sent Him to die on a cross for the sins of the whole world. When we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are saved from our sins and get to live with Him forever."

Of course, be respectful of your grown kids' beliefs, discussing your intentions to share the gospel with their children ahead of time. Pray for open doors, minds, and hearts to use Valentine's Day as an opportunity to share God's truth.

Riding your bike

Taking a nature walk

Drinking water

Getting plenty of sleep

Eating fruits and veggies

Add an inspiring prayer: "Lord, please keep my grandchild healthy and remind them to take good care of their bodies, in Jesus' name."

More fun things to add:

Colorful shoelaces

Athletic wrist bands

Inflatable balls

Sidewalk chalk

7. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Happy Grandparents with grandchild

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

Let this Bible passage assure your grandchild they can always count on you! Tell them how much you love spending time with them, playing games, reading books, taking walks, and having fun. Suggest more things you can do together, such as:

Going to the movies

Going to the children's museum

Doing arts and crafts

Playing Bingo

Building a blanket fort

Add an encouraging prayer, saying, "Lord, help my grandchild know they always have a friend in me!"

More fun things to include:

Movie tickets

Popcorn and boxed candy

Small art kit

Stamped postcards they can send back to you

Valentine's Day is the perfect time to share love and Bible verses with your grandchildren. Let this become a new tradition for this sweet holiday. It won't take long for your grandkids to look forward to the creative Valentines you send, reminding them of God's love and the truth of His Word.
