7 Fascinating Bible Verses about the End Times

Since Christ's ascension to heaven, we have been in End Times. We are awaiting the return of Christ and the defeat of Satan once and for all, but for now, we must be mindful to prepare. God has graciously given us prophecy and promise through His Word. As followers of Christ, we ought to take these verses to heart and ask God how we can prepare for Christ's return.

    1. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NIV)

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people."

As we read these traits, we immediately look at them as flaws of others, but we need to be mindful that we are not above falling prey to these temptations. This is why staying close to God daily is so imperative. Ask Him to help convict your heart if you are guilty of falling into any of these pitfalls and how to turn away from them so that you will not be consumed. We need to watch the world around us as it can quickly turn to fulfill this prophecy.

  • Soldiers at war

    2. Matthew 24:6 (NIV)

"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come."

We cannot turn the TV on without hearing rumors of war or the actuality of war. It is strange to think of all the wars that have ensued since the words of Matthew 24:6 were written, but Jesus knew full well the future that was to come. As bone-chilling as war is and as anxiety-inducing rumors of war can be, we must recall these words. These disagreements of men do not take God by surprise, and He has not left us alone during these times.

    3. Mark 13:32 (NIV)

"But about that day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

It is nothing new to find groups of people attempting to predict and plan an exact day on the calendar when they believe Christ will return. For centuries, history has shown collectives of people who join, awaiting a specific day just to see it come and go without the return of Christ. This does not mean He is not coming back, but that He is faithful to His word in Mark 13:32. Only the Father knows when Jesus is to return, and we must take Him at His Word. That being said, we ought to prepare as we await His arrival, for it will indeed come like a thief in the night.

  • Trumpets

    4. 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 (NIV)

"In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

Death will not have the final say; hallelujah to that! Jesus holds the victory, and it will come about in His timing and in His command. As we await that day that will come in the twinkling of an eye, we must be diligent not to fall away from seeking Him, and we must continue to share the good news we have been given of the gospel with others so that they, too, may rejoice and find salvation through the victory of the Lamb.

  • A blood moon, what does the Bible say about astronomical prophecies

    5. Joel 2:28-32 (NIV)

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls."

The Lord has not stopped sharing dreams, visions, and His Holy Spirit with His people! Joel 2 and Acts 2 both share the promise that the sons and daughters of God will experience these holy wonders through His Holy Spirit. Almost every story in the Bible holds an experience of a dream, vision, or prophetic word given and the faithfulness of God to see it come to pass. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 reminds us that prophecy is not something we should reject as believers. Even in our fear, we should test it and seek God to fulfill it in His timing and way.

    6. Luke 21:11

"There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven."

Natural disasters will multiply in the final days, as will famine and other terrors. When these occur, our first response will be to fall into despair and fear, but we must not, for our God is bigger. He is with us in the drought, in the famine, in the disaster, and in the storms. He cares for us, and we are not without the hope of all that is to come.

  • 7. Luke 21:25-26

    7. Luke 21:25-26

"And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken."

Luke 21 again reminds us that natural phenomena will occur in the final days. These may come as a surprise to us, but not to Him. They are part of the bigger plan prophesized in the Bible and will not be the end of us all. God holds the ultimate victory. We should be aware of these signs and continue diligently preparing for the second coming.

Jesus's returning is something not to fear, but to rejoice and ache for in the victory of being with Him. The Lord does not want us to obsess over the End Times, but He does want us to be mindful to be ready in heart and action. We must remember too His commission to us as He ascended to go out into the nations and to share the Good News with others. Ask God how you can prepare and do Kingdom work here on earth in the meantime.
