7 Powerful Ways to Increase Your Faith While Single

7 Powerful Ways to Increase Your Faith While Single

Faith is the substance, the base of things we hope and pray for. It is the evidence of things we cannot see. It is a journey through belief in God that comes with tests to see how strong our faith in God is. Faith is many things to the believer, but most importantly, it is the hope and confidence we have in the living God. Walking in faith is something all believers are tasked with. And while this is not an easy feat, God's Word makes it clear that it is impossible to please Him without it. While on this journey of discipleship, we experience many tests of faith for our faith in God to grow.

Each believer's tests come in different ways, at different times, to ensure that we are constantly growing in our relationship with God. For single Christians, many may believe that God is testing their faith by not outrightly blessing them with a spouse or even a potential one. They may also believe that the failed relationships or heartbreak they experience is a means of increasing their faith. While this may be true, Christian singles need to understand that their faith in God should move beyond the desires for a mate, and they should desire knowledge on how to increase their faith in God for their walk in discipleship. If you're a single believer, and it is your heartfelt desire to increase your faith in the Most High God, take a look at these seven practical ways you can do so.

    1. Understand Your Faith

The first step to increasing your faith while you're single is to understand what your faith in God means, what your faith practice looks like, who your faith relies on, and what your faith is for. Understanding your faith means that you understand who God is, who He is to you, His purpose in your life, and that your faith in God is about trusting His divine will for your life.

Many singles often lose faith in God because they have experienced unanswered prayers. However, singles must learn that faith in God is about trusting Him no matter what does or does not happen and knowing that what God has in store for the present and future is what's best for your life. Increasing your faith in your singleness also means that you practice your faith in God on a daily basis, not simply when you desire something big, when you're lonely, or when your back is against the wall. Increasing your faith in God is a daily habit all Christians must have in order to please Him, no matter what your relationship status is.

    2. Read and Study God's Holy Word

Reading and studying God's Holy Word is a surefire way to increase your faith in Him. Reading and studying God's Word is one way we get to know who He is. It is one way He speaks to and shows us how He wants us to live. For singles, if you desire to increase your faith in God during this wonderful season, you must be intentional about reading and studying His Holy Word. While reading through the Word of God, find Scriptures about singles, singleness, and who God's creation is. Believe it or not, there are a number of single people in the Bible that God used for His glory, and I'd like to say that He uses them as examples for us today.

Once you've found those scriptures, set aside some daily time to study and learn about their characters as singles in the Bible, discover how God used them, study to learn about what God says about singles, and, of course, study for your personal growth as an unmarried believer. Take notes, journal about what you've learned, and be consistent with your efforts to learn who you are as a single believer in Christ and how God can use you.

    3. Meditate on Scripture

Meditation is the art of clearing your mind and focusing on mental calmness. When working on increasing your faith, calming your mind to focus on the Scriptures will allow you to reflect and internalize Scripture with a receptive heart and mind in an effort to replace your thoughts with those of God. As singles, it's important to meditate on verses on singleness to remind yourself of who you are as a child of God rather than who you are as a single believer. However, it's also important to meditate on scriptures about singleness to replace any negative thoughts you may have about it with scriptures to uplift your mind, body, and spirit in order to increase your faith in God during singleness.

    4. Walk with Like-Minded Single Believers

Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is one key to growing in a positive direction in any area of life. Being with like-minded people means you are with people who have the same goals, and they will help you reach yours. Like-minded people will motivate you to work on increasing your faith, hold you accountable for staying the course, and challenge you to grow each day without judgment. As a single Christian, not only is it important for you to surround yourself with likeminded people, but it's also crucial that these like-minded people have positive attitudes towards singleness. While we all know that being single comes with its ups and downs, if you are seeking to grow in your faith in God during singleness you have to maintain a positive mindset about being single, and uplift each other as God desires.

    5. Pray and Ask God to Increase Your Faith in Him

Prayer is another essential part of increasing your faith in God. This step in your walk of faith is direct communication with the One you desire to trust in more through your faith. So, why not ask God to help you with this desire? If you are serious about increasing your faith, take some time each day to ask God to do so, and be ready for the tests that come along with this request.

    6. Obey God's Will for Your Life

The key concept of faith is trusting God at His Word without seeing or knowing the final outcome. If you desire to increase your faith in God, take some time to ask Him what His will for your life is as an unmarried Christian. While waiting for Him to reveal His will to you, it's important for you to serve others actively, remind yourself that you are not alone in the wait, and actively seek His face. As an unmarried Christian, it may be easy to believe that God's will for your life includes the ministry of marriage. However, it may or may not, and a part of increasing your faith in God is understanding that His will for your life may not include marriage.

    7. Trust in God's Timing

Another step in increasing your faith is trusting in God's timing for His will to unfold in your life. This can be one of the most difficult tasks in your walk of faith simply because we want control over when things will happen. For singles, many desire marriage and have waited patiently for the Lord to bless them with a spouse, yet this heart's desire has not come to fruition. When this happens, faith in God may waiver because a single heart may grow weary in waiting for this blessing if it is in God's will for their lives. However, a part of the journey through faith is about trusting that God knows what is best for your life. Not only this, but He knows the best time to deliver a heart's desire and knows what desires not to give. I'll admit that trusting in God's timing can be difficult, especially when you see how He's blessing others. However, the beauty in this struggle of increasing faith is that you see God's blessing amongst others when it's their time, so you can have comfort in knowing that He will give you your blessing when it is your appointed time.

Walking in faith and not by sight is essential to the lives of believers. If you go to God with requests in your heart, you must first have faith in His existence and divine works. Hebrews 11 teaches us what faith is and gives us several examples of what faith looks like in practice. Each example showed us that we must move forward in faith in God without knowing the outcome while trusting that He will provide our every need. As God provides our every need, all of our wants will be fulfilled as well.

As you continue to work towards increasing your faith in God, I pray that you remain strong in Christ, knowing that He walks beside you each and every day. Trust and know that you are not alone because you aren't married. Trust and know that God knows the desires of your heart. Trust and know that God sees and loves you, and He is waiting patiently for you to walk and grow in faith in Him to live a life that is pleasing unto Him.
