10 Things Real Christian Women Shouldn’t Do

    Excerpt:

    9. Fill Up Social Media Platforms with Self

Okay, I know I’m going to step on some toes here and lest I sound judgmental and become guilty of number 8 which I just told you NOT to do, please hear me out. I’m sorry if you see it as a healthy self-esteem, but posting selfie after selfie on social media says “I’m all about myself.” Scripture says when we follow Christ we become all about Him. John the Baptist said “He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30, NKJV). For me to decrease, my selfies must decrease, too.

Showing no selfie-control means we haven’t yet grasped the truth of Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Put other people in those pictures with you and make it about the good time you are sharing with someone else. When people see you, they should see Christ, not a bunch of pictures of just you.

10 Things Christians Like to do That Aren’t Biblical

    Excerpt:

I was the kid who always asked, “Why?”

“Why do we hang stockings at Christmas?” “Why do we eat turkey at Thanksgiving?” “Why does the Tooth Fairy leave coins for my lost teeth?” Why? Why? Why? Some answers helped me understand the history behind the mysterious actions, while others left me even more perplexed.

Becoming a Christian didn’t make me less inquisitive; if anything, it made me even more curious -- and that’s a good thing. Rather than blindly following tradition or culture, God calls us to base everything we do on biblical principles and spiritual truth.

By asking ‘Why?’ I’ve uncovered ten things Christians like to do that aren’t biblical.

10 Christian Celebrities You Should Know

    Excerpt:

Hollywood and celebrity circles can often be places where Christian faith and viewpoints seem unwelcome, but that hasn't kept Christians out of the limelight. Despite perhaps being in the minority, celebrity Christians are out there and many are not afraid to be vocal about their faith.

These 10 are only a few of the many Christians who are using their talents along with expressing their faith. Whether in films, on television shows, or in sports, these individuals are making an impact for Christ.

    6. Chip and Joanna Gaines

Chip and Joanna Gaines, the stars of the popular HGTV show Fixer Upper, are known not just for their amazing renovation and design skills, but for their faith. The couple was even thrown into controversy recently because they attend a church which ascribes to biblical views on homosexuality. Throughout the uproar, the couple remained gracious. They also just announced they will be starring in a new series.

10 Things All Christians Should Know About Heaven

    Excerpt:

    1. Heaven is a physical place.

Many people hold varying beliefs regarding the afterlife. Some deny it exists. Others feel there are stages one goes through before reaching a certain level of paradise. Still others view heaven as a place filled with angels and everything spiritual but nothing material.

Scripture, however, reveals an actual place with a specific location. Speaking of heaven, Jesus told His disciples He was leaving to prepare a place for them. The apostle Peter wrote about “the new heaven and Earth” God would create, which, according to Revelations, contains physical things such as horses, trees, a temple, and a glorious city—the New Jerusalem (Rev. 12:22, 15:8, 19:14, 22:2).

10 Things You Need to Know Unforgivable Sin

    Excerpt:

“One of the questions I'm regularly asked is, ‘Pastor, can I commit a sin that God cannot forgive?’

According to Jesus, there is one sin a person can do for which there is no forgiveness or pardon either in this age or in the age to come: blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. But what does it mean to blaspheme the Holy Spirit?”

Dr. David Jeremiah explains how the only way to understand these words is by seeing them within the context of the whole passage.

10 Churches You Might Want to Avoid

    Excerpt:

    8. Doesn't Quote Scripture

This includes both the Old and New Testament. Church is more than just stories and platitudes. Actual Scripture should be quoted regularly and whole passages read out loud. Sometimes we need a paraphrase to help us apply Scripture. But at other times, just reading it directly from the Bible is enough.

The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

10 Things You Should Never Say to Your Pastor

    Excerpt:

    4. "I’m not one to gossip, but…"

That’s always the prelude to gossip.

When I was a young pastor, one lady in the church would confide, “Now, I know you would want to know….” It was her way of passing along gossip.

Stifling the urge to pass along the latest trash on someone in the church is one of the hardest skills to acquire. Only the mature can pull it off.

10 Church Activities that Need to Go

    Excerpt:

One of my favorite parts of church is that it has events where I can meet with a like-minded group of people. Some of these events help me grow in my faith, some give me an opportunity to serve my neighbors, and some just give me food and fellowship I can savor.

But there are times I find myself thinking “Man, this is way outdated!” as I participate in church activities, whether it’s in the service or during the week.

I say, “No more!” It’s time to take a stand.

Let’s get rid of the events that are holding our church back from growing. Let’s find the events that are thriving and add fuel to the proverbial fire. Let’s get rid of the old and bring in the new, and let’s start today. Here are 10 church activities that you need to consider dumping now:

    ...

    3. Stereotypical Men's and Women's Events

Friends, I have a huge pet peeve: boring women’s events.

I look over at men’s ministry and they get to do lumberjack races, have golf outings, and go hiking. It’s all adventures, all the time.

I’m left sipping tea, crafting things made of lace, and eating a “light lunch”.

Being a woman doesn’t exclude me from wanting to get my hands dirty and eat hearty meals. I would love to have a women’s event that resembles American Ninja Warrior followed by eating all the carbs I can find.

    But it goes both ways.

I’ve had male friends petition to have men’s ministry events that are laid back. Coffee and fellowship? Sounds perfect to them.

The moral of the story is that women’s events don’t always have to include talking indoors and all men’s events don’t have to include physically intense outdoor activities. Mix it up to attract more people.
