    1. Proverbs 16:3

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3

When you choose your New Year’s resolutions, it’s easy to focus only on what you want to achieve. But this verse reminds you to include God in your planning process. Instead of asking God to bless your goals after you’ve made them, decide from the start to seek God’s guidance on how you can truly fulfill God’s purposes for your life in the new year. This is an act of worship that shows God you really trust him. Invite God to take the lead and guide all your goals and plans. Remember that God promises to establish your plans if you start by making a commitment to line up your goals with God’s will. Create prayer and meditation habits where you dedicate your future to God and trust him to establish the right path for you.

    2. Psalm 37:4

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

This verse encourages you to find satisfaction in God alone. To “delight” in God means to spend time with God and to pursue God’s will. This requires shifting your focus from temporary worldly pleasures to the joy of your relationship with God. It involves intentional actions that help you connect with God’s presence and communicate with God. This doesn’t mean that God will give you everything you want. Instead, as you delight in God, your desires transform to line up with God’s purposes. When you prioritize God, he shapes your heart, leading you to want what God wants for you. God gives you more than just things that are good for you; he also helps you grow spiritually and find true fulfillment in the process.

So, plan time each day to delight in the Lord in ways that are most meaningful for you, such as exploring nature and letting it show you more about God or singing praise and worship songs to God. Regularly evaluate your desires. Ask yourself honestly if your desires are based on selfish motives, or if they reflect God’s priorities for your life. Commit to delighting in God first – even when your desires feel unfulfilled – trusting that God will provide what’s truly best for you, when in the best timing. Then set small, achievable spiritual goals. For example, aim to memorize one Bible verse a month and apply it to your life in all the ways you sense God leading you to do so.

    3. Colossians 3:23-24

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23-24

This verse is a powerful reminder to approach your daily tasks with an eternal perspective. Whether you’re working on professional goals, personal development, or community service, see your efforts as acts of worship to God. When you work with this mindset, even the most mundane tasks take on eternal significance. The key is giving your best effort out of wholehearted devotion to God. You don’t need to be perfect; you just have to do your best as an offering to God. When you work for God’s glory instead of other motives (like only for money or approval from other people), you’ll experience a deeper sense of purpose and satisfaction. Before starting your work each day, say a short prayer dedicating your efforts to God. Then do your best with all your work – even small tasks – to serve God with excellence.

    4. Matthew 6:33

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33

In this fallen world where materialism is common, this verse reminds you to focus on what truly matters. Jesus tells you that when you put God’s kingdom and righteousness first, everything else will fall into place well. Jesus is calling you to prioritize your spiritual life above all else. So, base your New Year’s resolutions on what you sense God leading you to do this year. When your resolutions are based on fulfilling God’s purposes for your life, you’ll find a sense of balance and satisfaction that you can’t find from just worldly achievements. Choose one specific way to “seek first his kingdom” and make it a non-negotiable part of your schedule every day. For example, set aside 15 minutes each morning for devotional time with God, or commit to spreading God’s love through kind words and actions throughout the day.

    5. Isaiah 40:31

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

The new year is exciting, but it can also be exhausting. Maybe you’ve faced challenges in the past year that have left you feeling drained as the new year starts. In this verse, the Bible encourages you to place your hope in God. When you do so, God will give you strength that surpasses your human limitations. This verse describes that if you place your hope in God, God will renew your strength so much that it will be like you’re soaring like eagles and running without fatigue. It invites you to stop striving in your own power and rely on God for the renewal you need to face the year ahead. Identify one area of your life where you feel tired or burdened. Then spend time in prayer, asking God to renew your strength and guide your steps moving forward. Incorporate regular times of rest and reflection into your schedule during the new year to seek God’s strength day by day.

    6. James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5

Making resolutions involves decision-making, and sometimes when your goals seem unclear or complicated, it’s hard to know the right path to take when you’re facing important decisions. James 1:5 reminds you that God is the ultimate source of wisdom. God is ready and willing to provide guidance when you ask him. This verse is a powerful encouragement to seek God’s wisdom for your decisions. God’s wisdom helps you discern what truly matters. That discernment will help you avoid distractions and pursue what God really wants you to do the most. So, start your goal-setting process with prayer, specifically asking God for wisdom. As you move forward with your New Year’s resolutions, keep seeking God’s guidance and adjusting your decisions to reflect how God leads you.

    7. Hebrews 12:11

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” – Hebrews 12:11

Discipline is often the missing ingredient in achieving resolutions. While it’s tempting to avoid hard work or discomfort, this verse reminds you that discipline is essential for long-term growth and peace. God uses discipline to shape your character and help you grow in holiness. When you embrace discipline as part of God’s training, you’ll find that the temporary discomfort is worth the lasting rewards. Trust that God will help you do whatever it takes to fulfill your New Year’s resolutions – from breaking an old habit to establishing a new habit. Choose one area where you need more discipline, such as managing your time better, getting more sleep, or eating a healthier diet. Set small, achievable goals and celebrate your progress, remembering that God’s grace is with you every step of the way.

    8. 2 Timothy 1:7

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear and doubt can often hold you back from pursuing your New Year’s resolutions. This verse reminds you that God has given you his Holy Spirit, which empowers you to act boldly and lovingly while maintaining self-discipline. Through this verse, God calls you to reject fear or hesitation and instead take action with faith and courage. When people let go of their New Year’s resolutions, they usually do so either because of fear of failure or a lack of discipline. This verse reassures you that God will provide everything you need to successfully achieve your own resolutions. The “power” this verse mentions can inspire you to rely on God’s unlimited power rather than on your own limited strength. The “love” reminds you that God’s love flows through your life when you work on fulfilling your resolutions. Finally, “self-discipline” reminds you to keep working diligently to make your resolutions a reality.

    9. Philippians 4:13

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:13

Have you ever set a goal so big it feels overwhelming? Maybe you’re trying to break a bad habit, take on a new challenge, or grow spiritually. Philippians 4:13 reminds you that you’re not doing it alone. God’s strength will help you overcome your weakness and empower you to tackle even the most daunting resolutions successfully. As you rely on God to help you, God will give you the strength to overcome whatever obstacles you face as you work to achieve your goals – overcoming fear, staying disciplined, persevering through setbacks, or anything else. Success isn’t just about your efforts, but about God’s grace working through you. Write down this verse and place it where you’ll see it daily, such as on your bathroom mirror or computer screen. Then, when challenges come up, take a break to pray for the strength that only God can give you.

    10. Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

Persistence is important as you work to achieve your resolutions, especially when the results seem slow to come. Galatians 6:9 encourages you to keep going, trusting that your efforts will lead to good results in God’s perfect timing. This verse encourages you to stay faithful, even when you feel discouraged. So, choose to trust that God sees your efforts and will bring something good out of those efforts at the right time. Write down this verse and reflect on it whenever you feel tempted to give up on a New Year’s resolution. Remind yourself that perseverance is an act of faith, and that God will honor your faith by helping you.

In conclusion, turning to the Bible for inspiration when making New Year’s resolutions grounds your goals in God’s wisdom, which is vital for achieving the goals you set. By lining up your resolutions with biblical principles, you welcome God’s guidance and strength into your life. That will help you make sure that you set the best resolutions and successfully make those resolutions a reality!
