A mother’s love can change the world. Giving a soft cuddle, sharing a smile, speaking words of encouragement, providing comfort when fear arises, bandaging scrapes and cuts, being firm with decision-making, and sharing God’s love are some ways a Mom shows how important children are to her.
Consider the words that Mary, the mother of Jesus, may have prayed for her child before He was born. Mary didn’t know what characteristics the special child would have when he was born. His hair and eye color were unknown. His height and weight were not given when the angel Gabriel brought the good news to Mary. Although Mary was troubled by the news that she would have a baby, she listened and obeyed. Gabriel told Mary that the child would be great and would be called the Son of the Most High. Mary didn’t know every moment of Jesus’ life but she loved the child.
“‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her.” (Luke 1:38 NIV)
Whether biological, adopted, or a woman who shows motherly love to others, each mother can go to God in prayer and seek wisdom and peace. There are prayers every mom should pray every day.
Dear Father, thank You for giving me the desire to become a mother. I praise You for mothers who have shown examples of how to share Your love and forgiveness. Please guide my husband and me as we wait to receive the blessed news that we will be parents. Help us remember to care for our bodies and rest in Your presence at each moment. Father, please give me a healthy mind, body, and spirit so that I will be a nurturing place for this child to come. Thank You for loving us and for creating children. May the love of God be glorified through my words and actions. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” (Psalms 127:3 NIV)
Lord, thank You for this child. As we rejoice in the blessing of pregnancy, help us to remember that all children are creations of God. Guide me to have the correct medical care. Help me to choose the best nourishment for the baby and myself. Show me ways to exercise that will aid me in having a strong body and healthy pregnancy. Help me to seek answers from my doctors, trusted family, and friends when I have questions.
As I pray each day and night for this child that will enter the world in a few months, may I remember to always place You first in every situation. Thank You for the wisdom and knowledge You give to medical professionals. I pray that I will be a blessing to other expectant mothers. Amen.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalms 139:13 NIV)
Heavenly Father, I am waiting for this child that I am carrying. My doctor has estimated a due date, and that day has come and gone. Father, give me patience and calm as I wait for the birth of this baby. May each moment be filled with the peace that only You can give. Fill my heart and soul with rest. Renew my spirit as I wait to meet face-to-face with this child. Keep me covered with Your hedge of protection. I pray that I will stay calm and remember that Your plan is working according to Your will. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving this child. Amen.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NIV)
God of creation, I praise You for this child coming into the world soon. Although I am uncertain of what will happen during the time leading up to the birth, I know You are with me at every moment. Please calm any fears that enter my thoughts. Remind me of the birth of Jesus and how Mary endured uncertainty during childbirth. One thing I am certain about is that You love Your children. May any pain and discomfort ease quickly, and may my body be ready for the delivery of this precious baby. Please be with the medical team as they assist with the birth. Please help me remember that any challenges that arise will pass, and the blessing of the child will overcome any fear. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV)
Dear God, we give honor and praise to You. Thank You for this beautiful child that You have created and given us to raise. From the moment of conception to this moment of birth, You have been with the child. Abba, the love and emotions that flood my body remind me of how Mary must have felt at Your birth. Although exhausted from the birth process, I am forever grateful to be a mother and to share Your love with this child. Please protect this child and help me to show this little one how to share the goodness of God with everyone. Amen.
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” (Mark 9:36-37 NIV)
Lord God Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth, we give all praise to You. Thank You for every child You have created. Thank You for the children who have been born into our family, the children who have been adopted, and the ones who we can “mother” in neighborhoods, schools, churches, and other places. Your mercy and grace have blessed mothers and fathers across the world. May every mother pray daily for their children to know You and to have a deep relationship with You. May each mother lead by example in following Your commandments. Let the words and actions of each mother shine Your light. Help every mother to share faith, hope, and love with children of the world. Amen.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 NIV)
Father God Almighty, thank You for children. Please place Your hedge of protection over every child in the world. Some children face numerous obstacles, including stressful family situations, complicated health issues, relationship conflicts, and more. Although many children are blessed with happy families, others experience troublesome times at home and in the world. Bless each child and help them to know You are always present. You never leave. In good times and bad times, Your love covers each child. Help each young one to feel the peace and protection that You provide. Thank You. Amen.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV)
8. Prayer for Wisdom, Discernment, and Revelation in Parenthood
Slide 8 of 10
Father, thank You for blessing the children. Thank You for allowing me to be a mother to my children. Lord, I ask for wisdom, discernment, and revelation each moment. Guide me in making the correct choices when teaching children. Help me to forgive myself when I fail. There are many parenting decisions, and I ask for Your direction. Remind me to go to You and share joys and concerns. Remind me to pause, breathe, and pray. Your love guides me in every moment. I pray I will show Your love to children by following Your calling on my life and obeying Your commandments. Through my actions and words, let the children know You.
Dear God, thank You for children. As children grow and learn to make choices, guide them to follow You and not focus on themselves. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of what we are called to do. We repent and seek Your forgiveness and mercy. Being the parent of a prodigal can be heartbreaking and devastating. Cover each mother with love, peace, and calm, and give her rest and renewal through You.
Rejoicing comes when a prodigal child returns home. May each family rejoice and rebuild relationships with Your help. Remind every mother that they can go to You and seek answers. Even if a positive outcome hasn’t happened, please let the mother know she has not failed. You are our strength and portion. Amen.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” (Romans 8:26 NIV)
God, You are the source of light, love, and hope. Thank You for the children. Thank You for creating the world. Give us strength, stamina, creativity, wisdom, discernment, love, joy, hope, and everything needed to share about You with children. Guide us to protect our children. Give us the tools to help them develop a strong relationship with You. Father, all glory and honor go to You. May our words and actions show children how to love others as You love.
Whether our children are unborn, newborn, young, or not-so-young, we help every mom to show compassion and care to other moms and children. In Your Name, Amen.
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” (Proverbs 31:26 NIV)
