7 Prayers for When You Really Need God to Come Through for You

7 Prayers for When You Really Need God to Come Through for You

Life is really hard. I don’t know that we validate that enough. Trying to stay on top of having a healthy body, healthy finances, healthy relationships, a clean house, and a thriving faith all at one time feels so impossible. And maybe it is, and maybe that’s the point–because it causes us to depend on God for our well-being.

Our limitations turn us towards God. But taking the next step forward in faith of actually depending on him is so scary. We all have thoughts like, “What if he doesn’t come through?” “What if God won’t do what I need him to punish me or teach me a lesson?” “What if this is the one time God lets me down when I really need him?”

One way you could summarize the Bible is God coming through for his people. We have their stories, and we even have our own stories of God’s faithfulness. But when you can’t see God’s faithfulness right here, right now, in the situation you’re in–this is where we grow.

Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Even if you can’t see it yet, God is working for your good. These prayers will help your heart to move from a state of doubt to a state of belief in God’s ultimate care for you.

    1. A Prayer for Your Health

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD,...” Jeremiah 30:17

    Dear Father God,

In your love, you created a perfect, beautiful world, but it has fallen. And with it has fallen the functioning of our bodies. Cancer, autoimmune diseases, heart attacks, anxiety and depression ravage our bodies and discourage our souls. “Health” feels like an impossible objective, no matter how hard I am trying or how much money I am spending on medicine, supplements, and doctors. It can feel like my body is against me. But you, Jesus, are the Great Physician. It is in your will that I am completely healthy and completely healed. I desperately ask that you perform miracles on my body, Lord, like you have done for countless others in your Word. Show me your love as I learn to love my body, exactly how it is. Please point me to anything that I could be doing better or differently to help my health, but more than anything, please increase my faith. I need your intervention Father, and I trust your plans for my life. Like Romans 8:28 tells me, you are working in this difficult situation for my good. Please open my eyes to see and open my heart to receive your healing.

    In your Son’s name, Amen.

    2. A Prayer for Your Marriage

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

    Dear Lord,

Marriage is a wonderful gift–and it is also sometimes extremely painful. Thank you for creating this special relationship to teach us so very much about ourselves and about you. The way you unconditionally love the church, your Bride, is so convicting. We can never measure up to your level of grace, but God, we try. I pray to soften and be more like you. To always see my spouse in the most positive light, even while having hard conversations and setting hard boundaries. I beg you God to work in my marriage to become what I hoped it would be on my wedding day. To be honest, I can feel hopeless that my marriage will ever be the type of relationship that I dreamed it would be as a kid. But I know that through your power, and if we are striving to glorify you, it can be even better than that. Please give my heart discernment to see how I am contributing either positively or negatively to my marriage. And please grant me patience, Lord, because I know that marriages are a marathon and not a sprint. Be the third strand that keeps our relationship unbreakable, precious Father. Work in my marriage, and give me the eyes to see our growth over time.

In your Son’s precious name, Amen.

    3. A Prayer for Your Finances

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” –1 Timothy 6:17

    Dear God,

Money isn’t evil, but it can be such a trap for our hearts. Money wouldn’t mean nearly as much to us if we believed in your goodness and sovereignty. But the reality of this world’s systems and economy feels very tumultuous and oppositional. As much as we want to believe in your abundance, when we look at our bank accounts, it’s easy to shake our heads and feel like you’re not coming through for us. But the truth is that you know what we need–you know what we’ll drink, what we’ll eat, what we’ll wear. You know that we need homes and cars and jobs. You know that we need to feed our children and take care of our parents. Nothing is hidden from you in all creation–including what is stressing me out the most about my finances. Please increase my faith and help me to rest in your goodness and provision. You will not give me a snake when I ask for fish–so please grant me a healthy financial situation that can be used to glorify you. And no matter what, help me to be content in every situation. I trust that you care about my future more than I do, which means I can rest. Thank you for all the ways that you have taken care of me; thank you for all the ways that you will.

    In your Son’s name, Amen.

  • 4. A Prayer for Your Dreams

    4. A Prayer for Your Dreams

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

    Dear Lord,

We are created in your image, which means that we are meant for BIG lives! You have gifted each of us with talents, goals, and dreams that enrich our lives and the lives around us. But it can feel so vulnerable to bring dreams before you, God. They are dreams because they are out of our reach without your help, and it’s scary to know that it’s not in our control. But as I tenderly bring my hopes, dreams, and wishes before you, I lay them at your feet, and consciously choose to delight myself in you. Better is one day in your courts than thousands elsewhere–and so I choose to set my heart on our relationship rather than on my dreams. I know that as my good Father, you treat my dreams as precious and important. So I decide to trust you with them instead of endlessly striving and worrying if my dreams will come true. You care about my dreams more than I do, God, because they are from you. So please give my heart assurance and patience in the meantime, as I focus my attention on falling more in love with you.

    In your Son’s name, Amen.

    5. A Prayer for Your Grief

“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.” Psalm 40:2 NLT

    Dearest Father,

It’s hard to even talk to you. This feels like a pit of despair that I will never be able to find my way out of. You never intended us to experience this type of loss–but on this side of Heaven, we experience loss of relationship, loss of dreams, loss of identity, loss of safety, loss of so many devastating things. I feel like the walls are closing in on me; like I can barely breathe. How am I supposed to function? How am I supposed to move forward without this piece of me? I desperately need you to pull me out of the pit of despair. But before you do, precious Father, please show me that you are in this pit with me, and that it’s you that is pulling me out. I need your comfort. I need your supernatural hope. Be with me God, and help me to ask not “Why did this happen?” but ask “Who are You even in the face of this tragedy?” instead.

    In your Son’s name, Amen.

    6. A Prayer for Your Belief

    Dear God,

Logically, I know you are listening to me. I know you are there. But I’m having a really hard time feeling you here, God. I am having a hard time even believing that you exist. And even if you do exist, I’m struggling with believing that you are good, or loving, or kind. When I try to reach out to you, it feels like I’m grappling with air. When I try to pray, it feels like my words don’t leave my room. Where are you God? Please show yourself to me! I believe, Lord. Help me overcome my unbelief. Restore me to the joy of your salvation. Show yourself to me in the way that my heart needs. Bless me with the unwavering faith of Habbakuk, which allowed him to confidently declare “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” I need you, God. I need your gift of faith. Please be with me through this faith desert, and faithfully see me to the other side. I know you will.

    In your Son’s name, Amen.

    7. A Prayer for Circumstances Outside of Your Control

    Dear Sovereign Lord,

I know you have good reasons for everything you do. I know your ways are higher than my ways, and your thoughts are not my thoughts. But if I’m being honest with you, I would have had this situation go completely differently. I’m not getting what I want here, and you know that. And you’re still deciding not to act. As frustrating to me as that is, I have to trust that you not only know what you are doing, but are always working for my highest good. Please give me the eyes to see that, God. And if I can’t see it now, please grant me the patience until I can. I know that I will understand one day–if not on earth, then in heaven. I wish this situation was so different, God. But I will trust your goodness more than I trust my limited perspective. If it’s in your will to change this circumstance, I beg you to. But if it’s not in your will, grant me the strength to get through it. I can’t wait to see what goodness you create out of this chaos, Lord. I know you will rescue me one way or the other. Be with me until then.

    In Your son’s name, Amen

I hope you saw your situation in one of these prayers. And even if you didn’t, God sees what you’re going through. And he will come through for you. It’s what he does.
