Spring is a season of renewal and revival. As we spring clean our homes physically – decluttering, sanitizing, and opening our windows to let in fresh air – it’s also a great time to refresh our entire lives spiritually – clearing out sinful and unhealthy habits and relying on God’s help to develop holy and healthy habits. The more we clean up our lives, the more room we make to enjoy the blessings that God wants to give us. Based on Bible verses, here are 10 prayers to help us spring clean our lives.

SLIDE 1 OF 10
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10.
“Dear God, as we clean our homes of dust and clutter, help us also to clean our hearts. Forgive us for any bitterness, anger, or sin you see in us. We want to be renewed and revived by your Holy Spirit. Purify our thoughts and desires to reflect your love and goodness in all we do. Please help us be aware of how sin can creep into our lives. Show us where we’ve let dirty attitudes like pride, envy, or selfishness take root in our hearts, and help us to clean them out and replace them with the fruit of your Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Please remind us regularly to keep seeking and relying on you to empower us to grow positively. May our thoughts, words, and actions please you and help us build closer relationships with you. Thank you, God. Amen.”

2. A Prayer to Remove Negativity
SLIDE 2 OF 10
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.” – Ephesians 4:29.
“Dear God, negativity can easily affect us if we aren't careful every day to be positive intentionally. Please cleanse us so we can resist sinful ways of expressing negativity, such as gossip, worry, and destructive anger. Help us to encourage – not discourage – the people in our lives. Show us how to point people to the healing and hope you offer. Please help us choose gratitude over grumbling. When we’re tempted to complain, remind us of your goodness and the many blessings you constantly pour into our lives. Please help us to choose kindness over criticism so that people can see your grace at work through us. Please give us the courage to shine our lights in this dark world where people desperately need hope. Thank you, God. Amen.”

“Dear God, we confess that our minds can become cluttered with distractions and negative thoughts. Teach us to be mindful of what we consume mentally – through media, conversations, and self-talk. Please help us to replace thoughts that aren’t good for us with the truth of your Word. Please help us to focus our minds on what has eternal value. Please give us the discipline to make the best daily choices based on what we pay attention to since our thoughts lead to our attitudes and actions. We want to fill our minds with thoughts that help us keep growing closer to you and living the thriving lives you want for us. Please guard our minds and hearts with your Holy Spirit. Keep us focused on what is eternally significant rather than on temporary worries. Thank you, God. Amen.”

Please give us the strength to forgive those who have hurt us, just as you have forgiven us. May we learn from our painful experiences without allowing them to define us? Getting caught up in pursuing wealth or status is easy, but we know that true fulfillment comes only from enjoying your presence with us. Help us focus on the treasure we already have – relationships with you – instead of chasing material things for fulfillment.
