Powerful Trailer for Netflix’s 'Mary' Film Starring Anthony Hopkins

Without God sending his son, Jesus Christ, to Earth, where he willingly went to the cross, suffering and dying on our behalf, we would have no hope or future. If not for Christ’s love, grace, and ultimate sacrifice, being lost for all eternity would be our destiny. There is no greater love than what Christ exhibited for us upon that cross.

But before God could send his Son to Earth, events had to be sent in motion, and the right people had to be put in place, specifically Mary, the mother of Jesus. The birth of Jesus Christ is a miracle, an incredible story about the Messiah coming to save His people from their sins. However, what can be often overlooked by some in this story is the role Mary plays and the incredible pressure that was on her young shoulders.

The opening moments of the trailer for the film "Mary" perfectly capture what must have been her attitude and demeanor about the unbelievable, world-changing situation she found herself in.

“I don’t know why, but I was chosen for this,” she says.

A quick succession of scenes follows, giving audiences a look into Mary’s background as a young woman. We also get our first look at King Herod, played by Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins.

Mary then wrestles and reconciles with the fact that she will marry Joseph, essentially a stranger, and give birth to a son, even though she has never been with a man. In the trailer, her husband-to-be questions her about her potential unfaithfulness, which she fully and rightfully denies.

The events surrounding Jesus Christ’s birth involve many people and miracles, including Mary. The amount of faith and trust Mary must have had in God at this time is mind-blowing and, frankly, hard to imagine. Thankfully, Mary and Joseph had faith and believed that God would see them through and so because of that, they helped to bring the most powerful, world-changing gift ever into the world.

“Mary” begins streaming on Netflix on December 6.

Luke 1:38: “And Mary said, ‘Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed from her.”
