Terri Irwin Offers Encouraging Words on Navigating Grief and Finding Hope

Life can and, sadly, does bring about some of the most devastating, soul-crushing, and demoralizing circumstances. Without even a moment’s notice, our entire world can change. Tragedy can strike anyone at any time. Horrible circumstances and situations do not discriminate; they visit everyone at one point or another.

That’s why reminding those closest to us how much we love and care about them is important. Something might happen; some unforeseen event could take place that removes that individual from our lives forever. People can be here one minute and gone the next. The Bible says that our lives are like a mist or a vapor, seen for a time but then quickly gone.

However, the good Lord does not leave our side when tragedy strikes. Instead, He walks with us through those dark valleys and storms. In those instances, He offers comfort, healing, and shelter from those overwhelming circumstances. And because of Him, we have hope and a future, even when it may not seem possible during the pain and sorrow.

Terri Irwin knows pain, grief, and heartache well. Years ago, she lost her beloved husband Steve, better known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” during one of his many encounters with wildlife. She offers some wisdom and insight into dealing with grief, including how one thing people say when tragedy strikes is incorrect.

“Eventually, when they say time heals all wounds, it doesn’t,” she said. “But eventually, it changes it, and it walks next to you. It’s always there, and you have to acknowledge your grief, but it’s, it’s a companion rather than an all-consuming feeling. And if we can focus on that and focus on there’s some grief that you never really get over, it’s okay. You’re going to be okay.”

Later in the interview, Terri states that after loss and heartache, there is life. Life does go on after experiencing hurt.

“And the sun will shine again,” she said. “It may not shine as bright, but it’ll shine again. So, that’s what you have to hold onto.”
